Full disclosure I missed viewing tonight's game, but tonight's boxscore really tells quite a tale. Here are my takeaways:

KO is literally throwing against the wall and seeing what sticks. We have no defined lineup and continue to mix it up with 10 different guys hoping something works. I don't know if this concerns anyone else but it makes me very unsure about the composition of this team heading into March. TO all of a sudden with 21 minutes and Deandre only getting 18?

It's laughable that alot of people on this board swore this past summer that DD was going pro after this year. He has legit become a ghost. I don't know if it's his confidence or if he just flat out isn't an assertive player. Ya he showed us flashes towards the end of last year, but more often than not this year he has failed to produce.

Giff and Kromah are invaluable to this squad. Combined for 19 points, 7 rebounds and only 1 turnover. Absolutely love having glue guys like them.

In 7 minutes of pt Omar was 0-4 with a turnover. Pull the plug on him for the year. I don't care what people say. Give the minutes to Terrance and let Omar have a healthy summer to work things out. it aint happening this year.

Lastly, to the surprise of no one Bazz is really the only guy we can count on. He does it all, and displays great leadership qualities i just don't get why these other guys aren't answering the call. Every game he's out there busting his ass wouldn't you think they would step up and aid his efforts?

Glad we *king won this game. Let's step it up, find some identity and go on a run. Bleed Blue.

TO played a little more because USF's bigs were beefy and TO could keep them off the sweet spot a little better. We tried to double with Brimah on him, but the guy was so deep, he just got an and one out of it. The difference between getting the ball 7 feet from the basket and 4 feet from the basket is that you can bring help in time 7 feet out.

DD has had moments this year - but he has looked bad since his high ankle sprain. He gutted it out in that game playing hurt and maybe that set his prevented him from getting back to 100 percent. Or maybe he's fine now and just isn't playing well.

Every time OC shoots, I hope it splashes through and starts a surge of confidence. I've been there, and the day it finally came back, I made 5 in a row and was like a new person again. May not happen, but it can. I wouldn't fault KO for pulling the plug, but I still envision back to back threes in a tight game in March that turns a 2-point lead to 8. Perhaps wishful thinking.

The only thing Bazz did in our 18-0 run was make an uncontested layup off someone else's steal. And one kickout to Boat. Other guys did step up there. It was a Boat-Giff-TSam run. Then he made the plays late, which is as it should be.

I stopped reading there. You didn't see the game yet feel as if you can make sweeping assumptions about the game and prospects for the season. Lots of factors go in to playing time decisions, most of which can't be gleaned from a cursory viewing of a box score.

Well, I guess that's the million dollar question, is it as it should be?

Yes - but making the plays late could involve finding someone open on a kickout next time. Ball should be in his hands, with Boat as the secondary option if the other team runs a hard double at him or effectively schemes him out of the possession.

This time, he got all the way to the rim for a foul and one, and then got a surprisingly clean look from 3 in the last minute. He did make that one going to his left at the top of the key, whereas he tends to shoot going to his right from there (or rocking back). Maybe got a clean look by going against the scouting report.

Oh, I agree with this. I want the ball in Bazz's hands and no one else's late. I'd just prefer that, coming off a home loss, he show up for the first half on the road against an inferior team and end it by halftime.

The million dollar question I referred to is whether he could try to do that and still be what he is late in games.

CA, I seem to be agreeing with you a lot tonight. It's very dangerous to glean truth from a box score. KO threw a bunch of different combinations out there because they flat out s*cked for the first 30 minutes of the game.

If not for the high ankle sprain, DD would be well on his way to making a major statementfoot the NBA. Still a lot of ball to be played to improve his stock.

Ah - gotcha. I was responding to the idea that nobody else stepped up and we just relied on Bazz tonight, when really he gave us the finishing kick after others had already stepped up.

I think there's a balance. The nature of hoops is that you can't always be at peak performance, and maybe need to make sure you keep your tank full by dialing it back a bit when it's early. But there's also a fallacy that crunch time is only in the last couple minutes. Sometimes, you need to step up and stem momentum earlier. That 3-pointer and steal when the other team punches you in the mouth with a 10-0 run is sometimes where the game is won or lost. Either when they cut your 16-point lead down to 6, or when they break open a close game to take a 10-point lead. Or you need to sense that your team is flat and help get them jump started, which maybe didn't happen tonight or against SMU - or didn't happen soon enough at Houston.

I've said this before, but one of the greatest performances in Kemba's great run was Cincy in the second round. We came out flat, looked tired, and he suddenly played like a man possessed - all over the floor on both ends, while Cincy's lead was still only 18-9 or so. That's what Bazz has to be ready to do in March - sensing that the throttle may be needed sooner and not waiting until the end when a lucky bounce or a bad call can overcome your efforts at late-game heroics.

Maybe I've been here too long...

I read this whole thread and the only thing that really caught my attention was whatever thought process possessed DM to self-censor the word "sucked".

And I remember the old trips to Miami when they first entered the league. They were terrible and yet everyone who went down there got mired in some sort of Florida funk. I'm just happened to see the team return from a Florida trip one "W" to the better.

I love the last part in the box score.. the column where we had more points than they did.

True, true. Was courtside for KEA's first trip to Miami, he was lining up FTs straight at the Miami Heat dance squad. Slight advantage.
