That difference in number of shots stood out to me too. However, why is the descrepency so high? Yes, UConn had 9 more turnovers, but they also had 3 more rebounds. By that math, you'd think there should only be 6 more shots for St. Johns. If that were true, UConn would have won.

Ed, it is the combination of 9 TOs 4 more O rebounds and possibly 1 more dead ball rebound = 14 more shots. The shot differential was 14. These are the categories that create extra possessions. Defensive rebounds do not creat extra possessions when calculating shot differentials.

Scoring off our turnovers really hurt us. The other thing that stands out is that only Kia and Kelly had a really good shooting night. Hasn't really happened this year that I can remember where one of our shooting guards didn't shoot over 50 percent.

I disagree.

Bria and KML were both closely guarded most of the game.

When Tiff attempted her patented drives to the hoop she was almost always surrounded by at least two defenders.

St. Johns employed the "Waltz Defense" (leave Kelly open and don't challenge her shots) against us.

(That defense, in the LV game, was also applied to Doty [but she burned them].)

IMO, we can expect to see the "Waltz Defense" from now on. Or at least until Caroline/Kelly becomes more effective offensive threats.

Peace,

John Fryer
