Do we think UConn will have the same roster for the bowl game or will some players elect ot skip the bowl game?

With the culture Mora built, everyone who can plays

its possible, and i have no actual knowledge, but I "feel" like the kids would be sold on the UConn football mission. few if any of them have any real prospects beyond the bowl game itself, save for Skyler or Joe (maybe).

no cfp, no conference championship, this is IT for the year, or for the career. The ONLY chance for any hardware representative of a successful season. Something to store forever at burton lobby. Why not play for that?

EDIT - it might also depend on the bowl itself. If we luck out and get pinstripe or fenway vs. a respectable P4, I think everyone plays, guaranteed. A final chance for glory and a feather in our cap. If we get a lame duck early december matchup against a directional school, on a tuesday morning.... then I wouldn't blame our studs for sitting out.

All we have to go on in the portal/NIL era is last year. Tons of players with remaining eligibility entered their names in the portal before the bowl game. One, on his way to Auburn, didn’t play. That may or may not be indicative of next year, but that’s what we have to go on.

.-.
If the news is true how many players does Jim Mora take to Colorado State? Every coach in the portal era takes their players with them.

In no way is this a school upgrade. But Mora is from the West and I’m sure CSU’s location is important to him. He probably feels he’s accomplished everything he can here. He did a great job for us. I just wish this was done after the bowl.

If he stays at UConn for the bowl game...talk about distractions. Will be be full
force recruiting for CSU? Will he be taking players/staff with him?

He has done a fantastic job at UConn....deserves many thanks for that.
This situation is a mess...potentially a big one.

In the new transfer portal there is no way he is not taking players he wishes to take with him. This will also include staff. This could get very ugly.

Next step to finish your career? Colorado State?

Nah
This was a lifestyle and location choice. He’s close to home and can have another build job with relatively low pressure.

Unless Dave knew all about this, I’d say we have to cut him loose and have Sammis coach the bowl game.
Need to cut Mora loose. Lewis Riddick talked about this situation in reference to Lane Kiffen.

Mora is leaving so I don’t fault any player for skipping
Screw that it would be dumb to tie your hands to 1 guy to skip out on 1 game. I wouldn't find that attractive if I were an nfl team drafting that guy, so an nfl HC gets fired should players skip out on the rest of the season then? Have seniors who have gotten this far, distractions are a part of life.

It will be very interesting to hear the details of all this, I'm very curious to hear them.

My concern isn’t Mora, it's the players.
We’re gonna lose players. Everyone does. The only way not to is to hire a coach in the next few days that really excites everyone. However, that kind of coach will want to clear the roster of dead weight anyway. I don’t really care. We aren’t loaded with talent at the moment. We need to restock the shelves.

Bowl games just aren’t that important, if we are decimated for the game, so be it. We’ve got bigger fish to fry. Let’s get going on the rebuild asap.

Huh. Let me understand. Instead of worrying about the bowl game, we should worry about getting a coach who can — wait for it — get us back to bowl games.

Not picking on you — I hear this all the time — but it’s never made sense for me. It’s the European football equivalent of not playing your best players midweek in Champions League games so we can save them for domestic leagues to make sure we can quality for the champions league again.

And that's why RE left the way he did. Told countless folks, he didn't want to disrupt UConn's Fiesta Bowl participation (so he stayed quiet) and Maryland insisted his hire be announced at a UM press conference (not in a UConn lockerroom in Phoenix). Proverbial "rock and a hard place". Mora had to announce now.

You are not wrong. However, many of BY supporters, in the same breath, are all for players opting out of the bowl game. Moral of this predicament is that college football with NIL, transfer portal, conference realignment, etc., is screwed up beyond saving. Let's just hope we can make a great hire: offensive pedigree, loves the passing game, and can recruit quality QBs, RBs & WRs . . . . and some defensive players too. Gotta keep the "Uconn Air Express" flying. LOL (RE need not apply).

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

So it must be a holiday week because we are in complete agreement on here. The heat that Edsall took after the Fiesta Bowl for the awful manner in which he left AFTER staying and seeing the season through, as opposed to what most other coaches were doing which was quit and not worry about the bowl game, was always unfair and at times plain stupid.

And again, full agreement. Even beyond the commitment you’re making to teammates to play a season, just from a rational point of view I still don’t understand why the risk of injury in your bowl game is any different than the risk of injury you had no problem playing through for the last three months.

The players have their own careers to worry about just like Mora. I don't see how Mora’s leaving will have any effect on a player's decision on whether to play in the bowl game or not.

I have to think that the Mora news is a huge detriment to our Bowl game prospects.

We went from a great PR story with a Mora comeback narrative, Top 5 QB, and Biletnikoff finalist made for TV....to a team without a coach and with likely half of the roster opting out of the game for the transfer portal.

Feel bad for the kids who just got the rug pulled out from under them right as they head home for Thanksgiving break...but I guess that is College Football in 2025. 🤡
