I reject that graphic on the grounds that our logo should come before DPuke. Afterall, Tennesse and Texas are formally listed as University of (same as us), so technically they should be listed AFTER UConn.
Um, that’s not how they show up in graphic - T comes before U. We are listed as UConn, not Connecticut Texas is listed as Texas, not UT.

"Listed as" doesn't make sense. Every university has an official name regardless of what the logo looks like. Technically many universities such as Alabama, Cal, Cincy, should be lumped in under "U." If not, then UCF, UCLA, UConn, should be moved to the "C" category. USF is listed under "S" and not "U." This graphic is moot.

They are going by the school's preference. UConn prefers to be branded as UConn and not Connecticut, so it gets lumped in the Us. Same with UCF & UCLA who prefer to go by their initials. USF's preference is to be referred to as South Florida, which is why they get put in the S's.

Interesting. However, at the Big East Conference site the Husky is placed between the butler and creighton logos. Same situation with UMass and UCF in their conference boards. But, UCLA is between Rutgers and SC at the Big 10 site. Way too inconsistent. These are the things that keep me up at night.

I haven't been remotely plugged into this, but given that we are bowl-eligible, is there any way they would actually be able to screw us out of a bowl invitation on account of being Independent?

Theoretically at only 7 wins, the answer is yes if enough teams were bowl eligible. But unlikely.

just curious - does anyone know if there even exists a number of wins that CLINCHES bowl selection? Regardless of indep/conference affiliated

(not talking about 6-win-eligibility)

just feels weird to be a 7 win team and unsure of our fate (in/out). Wondering if theoretically we could get screwed at 9 or 10 wins, however unlikely that is.

Agreed.

Our brand is UConn, Texas’ is Texas, Alabama’s is Alabama. The country identifies us as UConn, not Connecticut.

I heard AD Dave the other night and he is not particularly worried. Said they are reaching out to bowls and ESPN who controls most to see s what the options are. There are bowls that are not affiliated with any league. Said until they know who and how many teams are bowl eligible it’s hard to really predict where we will go.

That number is probably 8. There wouldn't be enough 8 win teams to keep us out.

The rule is all >6 teams need to be placed before 6 win teams for bowls with open spots (a conference tied in bowl can take a 6 win team to satisfy their affiliation requirements); then all 6 win teams ahead of 5 win teams which are placed based on the APR. There is no rule that says all 8 win teams go over 7 win teams (which is how 9-3 UConn was bypassed in 2003). With the number of bowls at this point it's hard to imagine a scenario where all 6 win teams don't get placed, let alone a 7 win team.

10 wins is probably that number. In 2003 they went 9-3 for their first year at FBS and we're selected for any bowls.

There's also three more weeks for additional schools to reach six wins.............

Wasn't that because you can't become bowl eligible during a transition year, just like JMU last year?

Oh absolutely. Bowl tie-ins first go to all eligible schools. After all the tieins are slotted then I think the bowls can select from remaining eligible schools that are at least 6-6. If there are no more slots then we can be out. I believe there might be rules about selecting teams with better records first when slots are available but I'm not entirely sure. What I am sure of is that we would get a bowl before any 5-7 school

Edit: Scott got there first. My bad

I'm not sure all I remember in UCMB was everyone was mad we didn't get selected. That could be the reason. But I only started watching sports on 2003 because of UCMB so I have no clue tbh
