Bouknight at UConn

The guy just got cut from an NBA team and might not be back in the league anytime soon, if at all.

Not a week or so later and he’s back on campus with the team. Part of me think this was a mutual arrangement and he probably wants some advice/help from Hurley and staff and maybe, just maybe, wants to tell these younger guys to take this serious and not F around.

Just a thought.
And Maybe, just maybe, he is there to collaborate with a biology professor on a cure for cancer.

Really cool to see Okafor and Bouk back. Hope they can give some words of encouragement to the team before Marquette.

Happy to have him back, he is part of the family. He is back to support the team and get a little support/guidance himself. Young enough and talented enough to turn this around once he starts making the right choices, maybe this is the start. Lots of mentors he could reach out to in the UConn family.
Honestly wouldn't be a far-fetched worry for some undisciplined teams around the country over the years and even here many years ago but this team is as professional as it gets from the coaches on down through all the players. Guys like Steph, Cam, and AK are choirboys. All they do is is think about basketball and practice when they're not at practice.

Being around the coaches and these players should be the best place for Bouknight. He was a foundational part of bringing the Huskies back to prominence and right now he needs to be around people who love him and want him to succeed.
Nice to see some reasoned responses to the plight of a visiting former player who had so much promise.

Good to see he didn't let ego get in the way and has seen the light about where he needs to be to get the guidance that will help him turn his life around.

Anybody in your life ever have issues big enough where they needed help or support? Did you tell them it's not your job to help them or is there just a limit to your sympathy because it's not your job? Vain and envious people like you who put themselves above we mortals thrive in their own perceived lack of popularity. I'm sure you think you do not need help but some grown ups and even millionaires do.
Scooter is not entirely wrong. Bouknight has been pampered for the last decade or longer. No one, family or not, can be helped unless they are willing to accept it. There is nothing, at least in the public realm, that indicates that. He talked about change after his DUI, but then continued to challenge the coaching staff in charlotte to the point where they waived him. With his talent, there must be a huge red flag out there that is keeping the other teams away.

none of us know why he showed up in Storrs now. He could be looking for guidance and mentorship. He could be looking to have the staff help him back into the nba. He might just be going back to the place where he is adored when his life is at its lowest point. No job, no prospects that we are aware of.

whatever the reason, he can’t be let anywhere near the court if he is at the game. Any antics would not be good for anyone. He needs to clean up his reputation before he gets a sniff at another opportunity.

Again with "we"?

You've just made him and anybody has who acted with questionable judgment look good by comparison.

Yeah no kidding. I wanted to just reply STFU. Your reply was better.

Oh stop. He is a grown man and a millionaire. He totally embarrassed himself and the program and the school last time he was here. Now you want to coddle him again. He wants to buy a ticket, that’s fine but we don’t need his distraction or even potential distraction right now. You think he just happened to come this week? He came to try to get noticed because he knew there would be big media circus. He was a punk when he first arrived. He was a punk when he came back last year. He was a punk in Charlotte. It isn’t UConn’s job to fix his issues. He needs to take responsibility.
Maybe without his talent. And him being high draft pick we wouldn’t of attracted next talent that led to championship after him. Jalen Gaffney wouldn’t of led to change in program. As great as Andre Jackson was and I love him we are better without him and took him years. Bouk was instant offense that got us back to national spotlight we were all young once hope he learns.

We were also pretty good with him

Building both a welcoming environment that embraces former players and a winning team that those guys want to be a part of has been quite the accomplishment. Whether this staff coached the guys or not, former players know they’re still celebrated and respected at UConn. There was a time when all that seemed like it maybe wasn’t going to happen. Glad everybody gets to see and enjoy it.
