I don't know if she has a real nickname but 'America's First Lady of Marathoning' might suit her just fine.

Thanks for reminding me of Joan. Her victory in the first women’s marathon at the 1984 Olympics in LA was one of the most memorable Olympic moments for me. She took an early lead and ran away from the field which included Greta Waitze and several other outstanding marathoners.

Also NASCAR's Jimmie Johnson ran the marathon in 3:09. Two days after racing (cars) at Richmond. Not bad for a guy who sits on his butt all day.
