Bortles has a better chance being drafted high this year mainly because the QB crop coming out of college is weak this year. I know people love Bridgewater but I don't see him being anything special in the NFL. If he's the best QB prospect, why not come out this year.

At the risk of incurring the wrath of the Casey folks (I'm a CC supporter, as well), I have to ask the following. Is his arm strong enough, enough of a threat, to keep defenses honest? We all saw that he is decisive, "reads" well, is quick and accurate.

We also know what he can't do; run. The defenses he played against flat out ignored his "threat" on the read/option. But a lot of very good QB's can't run a lick.

There are now three games on film. If Defensive Coordinators deduce that arm strength is an issue, they're going to take away quick stuff and bubble screens that CC has, so far, excelled at throwing. Unless CC shows he can "air it out," things are going to get crowded, in close.
Well played!

I agree that if he doesn't hit his targets down field they will tighten the box on him. A few of these pinpoint passes oughta do the trick. Doesn't need to be 40 yards down field either.

This QB class is actually a lot stronger than last years. It is pretty strong actually, Bridgewater, Bortles, Manziel should all go first round. Aaron Murray, the LSU QB Mettenberger, Gilbert from SMU. Solid prospects if not first rounders. Marriota stayed or he likely would have been a first rounder.

I'm quite aware that there is chatter from some talking heads, including Brugler, who has been his absolute biggest supporter. There's also guys like Greg Gabriel (longtime NFL scout and former Bears director of college scouting), who is predicting that if he's taken in the first round, the HC and GM who take him will be fired in three years. I see a big QB with a good, not great arm, accuracy issues, footwork issues, some mechanics issues. IMO he'd have to show a pretty huge improvement in pre-draft workouts in terms of mechanics and accuracy to surpass Bridgewater and even then I'm not sure. For some reason the media always wants to find some guy take down the consensus top QB in the draft. Happened with RG3 and Luck, and it's happening here. That's not to say he doesn't have impressive potential, but I just don't see any of the teams at the top willing to take the much higher risk that goes along with him over Bridgewater.

Pretty sure that as of today the number of underclassmen that have declared has set a new record, breaking the 2013 number, and there is still a week to go for underclassmen to make the call.
