I hold Manuel at least 50% responsible for the recruiting problems. Just name Ollie Coach in Waiting. That's all he has to do. Manuel can decide before he signs a new deal with Ollie that he will never coach a single game at UConn as long as Manuel is AD, but you have to give him the title and an appropriate contract.

So you are asking the new AD to bargain in bad faith? Nice.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Manuel has to back down here and name Ollie CIW, or show some balls and fire Calhoun now. Letting Calhoun run out the string like this will chase recruits off and make UConn a less attractive job, reducing the pool of candidates. If we follow the path we are on, we will end up with some MAC or MVC coach that no one ever heard of and everyone will wonder why we didn't just make Ollie the head coach.
Don't disagree with this assessment. I think where we disagree is on what his strategy should be, and on what Calhoun owes or doesn't owe to the program. Ollie wouldn't be the first "coach in waiting" not to end up as the next head coach, though I don't personally like that way of doing business, nor do Jim Roseborrough or Kevin O'Neil two name 2. My position would be to tell Calhoun to cut the crap, if we don't hear he is returning by July 1 or we'll assume he has decided to retire, and tell Ollie if he want to be the head coach at UCONN he should get himself the next mid-major job to open and prove he deserves it.
