Hindsight is 20 20 but I do think the lineup should have been shabazz lamb roscoe oleander and oriakhi.

Alex just really needs confidence to be effective.

Drummond off the bench.

I will also note that the boatright NCAA bs cost us a lot items of team growth...

But time to move on, can't win em all

If you really don't see a world of difference in that article, and 'AO saying he took a step back (no ), and the tone of your hate filled attacks I feel very badly for you.

Andre Drummond off the bench. Are you Crazy? Do you think the basically #1 recruited player in the world top #5 NBA draft pick would have come off the uconn bench for alex oriakhi? That is too funny!! JC had to beg and plead and promise that kid that he would start every game from the first day he walked on to campus till his last for andre to come here! That kid had every school on him and could have started anywhere he wanted! he would never come off the bench for any other teams center (other then UK's Davis but he would have never went there) If JC would have lied and would have tried to get him off the bench Andre would have no lie probably quit the team. I never heard of this before in this day in age of college basketball where a #1 recruit and top NBA prospect would come off the bench in replace for a fringe 2nd round nba prospect. if anything Alex should have came off the bench.

Dude I'm not saying he shouldn't have had a lot of minutes, just chemistry wise (with hindsight as i said) I think it may have played out better.

Calhoun knew Andre was raw and ridiculous so he put him in there right away, I would've done the same... hoping he'd develop into a dominator come march...

But don't kid yourself about andre's impact on the game, it was very very solid... But his year would've been next year, which isn't going to be.

Alex's bad attitude / lack of confidence permeated this team, starting him solo may have given him and the other starters a bit more comfort and familiarity.

Anyway, it's a moot point, as I said, let's move on

Let's just not post any more Oriahki articles and drop it. He's not a Husky so really, who cares? Unless of course we suddenly have an infatuation with a coach/team that loses to a #15 seed in the NCAA tourney!:)

You realize Andre came off the bench at the beginning of the year right? I'm sure you do, you're so insightful.

Ben Gordon sat as a frosh behind Taliek Brown and Tony Robertson. Ray Allen sat as a frosh behind a kid named Fair. Charley V didn't start as a frosh.

I don't literally disagree with your point (in today's world it would be strange if someone highly touted was pushed to the bench) but it's very sad. Basketball was a better game, and this country was a better place, just a few years ago when the five guys who started were going to be the five guys who gave the team the best chance to maximize its potential.

We most likely would have had a far better year had we started the season that way. AD would have had more of a fire lit under him, and AO wouldn't have decided he was being treated unfairly and taken the step back.

But that's only clear in hindsight. JC was trying to push everyone to be better and win games, and I can't blame him for it beyond saying not everything that even great coaches do work.

Interesting quotes. I really think Alex missed Jamal Coombs-McDaniel. He is a young kid and friendships are obviously very important to him. It looks like having a friend at Missouri was a key factor in his decision. NBA though - I don't think so. He wilted when played next to AD. When he gets to the NBA what is he going to do when everyone he plays with and against is better than AD. Think Europe Alex. Talk to Kalid, talk to Kevin Freeman, talk to Kevin Ollie, talk to Jim Calhoun. They may not be High School friends but I would bet they have some better advice for you.

Not so much a step back, as it was a pratfall. Hope he finds what he's looking for.

As far as costing us team growth, what about the HC missing more conference games than he made?

He is DEFINiTELY lining up for a big bite of reality. His step back was not due to playing time , or anything related to basketball. It was a character issue.

Great post. Just one minor correction: Kevin Ollie and Doron Sheffer started in the backcourt with Donyell at the 3.

I think they both had a major negative impact on the team chemistry.

You are correct. I forgot that Sheffer had already pushed Fair to the bench. I could point out, by the way, that Sheffer started as a true frosh over Allen, despite Allen's NBA potential, but the situation was so friggin unique (how many times do you have a true freshman who had already played at an all-star level in a professional basketball league) as to not be helpful.
