First of all I don't care what Duke does. They can have a roster loaded with 5 star players but to me it matters most with who is on the sidelines. UConn has the best coaching staff with Coach Hurley, Murray, Young and Moore.

Here’s how I look at it. Sports is entertainment. Great entertainment often has villains and heroes. Duke plays a GREAT villain, which makes sports that much more entertaining. We get to watch that bandwagon fanbase build itself up with over confidence to then hopefully lose in disappointing fashion to watch the ensuing meltdown. That is fun.

Reading Rupps Rafters go through a meltdown after a loss is pure comedic entertainment.

I used to despise the Yankees and loved watching them lose. But when they did I realized it just wasn’t as entertaining. Now that they don’t have George, don’t have old Yankee stadium, have players with less personality/swag, don’t win the WS anymore, not nearly as fun to route against.

Be grateful for Duke, they play an important role in this thing we call sports entertainment.

It was a Debbie Downer reference. You were complaining about our recruiting; I was doing no such thing.

One can say we’re doing great in recruiting and be annoyed when Duke lands recruits without there being any inconsistency.

It is like an old record that skips, every year when we get to this point and Dook thrashes us in the recruiting wars. Dook is usually joined by Kentucky and a hand full of schools that come and go right now Arkansas is hot, shoot even Rutgers is stacking five stars this year.

But some of us act like this is a new phenomenon.

Not sure what this means…..but my point was exactly like yours. I hate seeing our competitors bring in five stars but in the end it’s not like we get nothing with our recruiting efforts. So it may be hard to comprehend but we are on the same page with our sentiment.

But now looking at your comments it was your usual mocking of one of my posts. Hey guess what I was saying exactly what you were saying. But that is not really the point is it.

I understand but (and this has already been said) they are falling into our lap also. We are beating the big boys for guys we’re targeting.

Nobody really falls into any team’s lap in actuality. There’s always a lot of work that goes into it. Even if it’s K or Calipari or Scheyer. (Every now and they would pop in the last minute and snag some guy but I doubt very much a Diallo situation would ever happen with this staff.)

All I was saying is we should be enjoying it rather than complaining. That doesn’t mean I can’t get nauseated by Duke getting 2 studs at the same time because their dad played there. I wouldn’t be a UConn fan if I didn’t have that reaction.

I appreciate the response. Thank you. It’s a long post so read it if you want.

My whole point was that it makes no difference how many 5* we recruit. I don’t care. I care that Hurley is getting the players he thinks fit best. Of course I am enjoying this ride. I have been living and dying with whether we win or lose since the mid 70’s. I know how great this is. Just today my son and I rewatched the Purdue game since our football team stinks. I cannot express in words how great this is and to hear people like Bilas saying what UConn is doing is unbelievable. This is a dream not just a dream season.

When I left CT in 1991, there was no internet or DirectTV. My best friend would record the games overnight them to me so I could watch them. We are talking VHF…And I tried the best I could to avoid any news or watch sports until I got the tape so I would not know the outcome. That went on for four years. If anyone appreciates this I can assure you it is me.

And actually the line under my “frequently changed handle” ( as pointed out by another usual insulter) actually reads “built Hurley strong” not 5* strong. I don’t care how many recruits we get or don’t get I care about the results. That is really how I feel. We just went back to back and I think we have a chance to three peat and that is not because we are recruiting more 5* than other schools. Our teams are built the way Hurley wants to build them. Castle IMO was one of the top players coming out of high school. He probably was not 100% until late in the season and then we almost became unbeatable. He was 9 coming in and two going out. I also think he will have a better NBA career than Sheppard. McNeeley is 10 coming in and I would expect he will be one and done so let’s see how many 5* go before him in the draft.

My point was it’s like a broken record whenever we don’t get a recruit there is a thread like this. So it was a bad attempt at humor “you’ll get nothing and like it ”…. it sarcasm, irony whatever but it was meant as why do we even care. The only recruit or recruiting process I have ever really cared about was Ray Allen because I lived in SC and would go to his games at Dalzell/Hillcrest. So to another point I know who Ray Allen is and I could probably quote you most of the scenes from the movie. That was at least until last year and I got caught up in the Flagg drama here.

All I can say is that I am being truthful that the post was meant to be satirical in nature. I really don’t follow recruiting. I did it once last year and I saw that it was not worth really putting any emotion into.

But I do appreciate you taking the time and responding…..I am guessing you are not going to believe what I just explained but it is the truth.
