Offensive game plan was solid. Plenty of wide open plays. Put players in position to succeed.

Defense was stout all game.

Special teams were a net plus.

No dumb TO's, no face palms.

Dare I say Coach Diaco and his staff won on all aspects???????

UConn looked bigger, stronger and faster than ECU. Although they also looked wobbly at times. The game plan was conservative but it worked very well.

Definitely a step in the right direction.

I agree with the OP. This team looked well coached and showed a lot of discipline throughout the game. Mistakes were limited and didn't hurt us in key situations as they usually do.

It was pretty much the same offensive and defensive game plans.

The big thing was that they got the plays to offense on time without requiring time outs or resets. That allowed the offense to have a steady tempo. In turn, the "O" looked much more comfortable tonight.

I like Sherriffs heart and ability to scramble but not sold on his arm. He hasn't shown that he can throw a deep ball. He is not an accurate passer and last night missed some easy opportunities along with throwing the pick 6. Hoping he can improve his passing but am beginning to understand the comparison's with Tim Tebow and NC States moving him to full back.

He is going to get some competition next year from Tyler Davis and the new recruits, Jason Rose, Donovan Williams and Eddie Hahn.

Except for Rutherford at FB.

A small detail in the game week prep, but it is another smart move by the staff.

By changing his uniform to #7, Rutherford didn't have to remember to tell the ref he's an eligible receiver. Saves time as he subs in and made a small detail a non-entity by giving him a uniform number that automatically makes him eligible.

Rutherford is a big dude. Layed a few blocks tonight that must of felt like hitting a wall

There is not enough talk on the boneyard on what a great job Verducci is doing. Every game he has a different plan to attack the other team's defense. Some games his plan works better than others but he is still learning his personal and his players are young and still learning how to execute those game plans. Beat Tulane next week, get a week off, and those last two games could be fun. I'm hoping for a foot of snow on the 21st of November.

There are a few things I noticed tonight that made this a fun game to watch. First, there are a lot of new faces being rotated in on both the offensive and defensive sides. I like to see the staff rotating new personnel to see what they can get out of them. Most of those players made some small key plays at the right time which made a difference like Delo's 4 yard first down run in the 2nd Qtr or some of Rutherford's blocks. It all adds up so this is a Good thing. The most important sign of the Coaching staff improvement for me is that we were actually able to use our timeouts appropriately tonight rather than having to use them out of desperation because we can't get the damn play called and into the huddle on time! Let's see what we can build on next week...

I don't know that the coaches had any better of a game technically than they normally have. I can point to things that weren't great tonight, just like I can point to things I really liked after a loss.

Bottom line is when players play better coaches look better. If you want to give the coaches credit, give them credit for having the players so up but still loose for the game. But we played better than ECU last night. That was primarily on our players playing harder and better than theirs.

Running Newsome in garbage time? Huge face palm. Imagine an injury in that spot.

You didn't notice that the sideline was getting the plays to the huddle more quickly and with less confusion. IMHO, that was a huge key to this game. The offense was more comfortable. They played with a nice even tempo. Compared to previous games, I thought the coaches grew up a little this time out as far as their coordination.

Really liked the move away from no-huddle for this young team. More huddling --> Less confusion --> More success.

If BS can keep throwing passes like he did to Ayala, who took a hit, that's plenty deep enough for me.

The UConn team that beat ECU would beat USF by 21.

Too bad that team didn't show up against USF.

I agree; could nitpick and lots of room for improvement in most areas - but a solid game.

the only real downer that i saw was ron Johnson's 2 yards a pop each time through the middle. He just doesn't move anybody.

A very clean game by the staff. The only wtf call was the pass on 1st and goal from the 4. The off tackle run by Newsome on 3rd and 1 on the first drive was a sign that they learned from past mistakes. It was such a gaffe free game by the coaches that the terrible plays by the players like the pick six, the fumbles, the really bad throws didn't matter at all. The team can overcome mistakes on their own without the staff making it worse. ECU was the team that couldn't get its act together. Very pleased all around with the effort.

It's nice to have a comfortable win with some exciting FB to watch. Now, go get #5 in the big easy and we can hunker down for a shot at the postseason.
