Is Matt Schonvisky Bob Diaco's pen name?
The biggest most important progress will be made in areas we don't see on a daily basis. People fail to realize/understand how big of a rebuild this honestly is. Elite and bad should not be used in the same sentence to describe the same thing.
I think there are several people on this board who had delusional expectations this year. But I think the majority, like me, knew this was a rebuild. It is obvious we are lacking talent in some areas, especially on offense. I just wanted to see improvement, no matter how small, with each game. I have not seen that. And last night, I saw several players just going through the motions. And that is on the coach. I don't care if you have to put the equipment manager in pads, take the players out who don't want to be there.
And I want a coach who takes full responsibility, even if he shouldn't shoulder all the blame. You never throw your team under the bus as a head coach. Never.
I thought 5 wins was our ceiling this year. I don't necessarily care about the results themselves because I expected a poor record. What I didn't expect was ineptitude and getting swept by USF, Tulane, and Army. That's tough to pull off.
If someone told us we would be swept by Tulane, Army and USF in preseason, we would have laughed them off the board.
If not for a lucky punt return we lose to Stony Brook too. This team is not functioning.
When you don't have a clearly defined starter at QB and RB, then how are guys supposed to push each other? Who is the benchmark? We lack the basic stuff that causes football players to get better every week. If everyone is the starter, then nobody is.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg really.
I think we will all see something far different next year regarding this. He often talked about everyone getting better. You get better by playing. He has played everyone on this VERY young team, to help them get better. This is a very young roster as pointed out by the roster turnover. This will help the roster and program moving forward. I don't agree with the shuffling of QB's the way that he has used them, but playing all of the young guys will be beneficial moving forward. You are so right about the lack of a clear pecking order. Pecking orders give ownership and clear results.
Just reads like one of the more long winded posts over here.
We get that there has been turnover.
But for starters, that doesn't explain that the guy doesn't know how to manage his time outs.
That still doesn't explain the fact that instead of having a less talented team that has order and is afforded the chance to compete by sound play calling, clock management, and strategy that is geared towards winning football games.... We have a team that is exactly the opposite.
So is he getting a fair shake? Yes.
Is it possible that he is hindered by a poor roster and he is still doing a bad job? Yes.
Do we expect him to be fired anytime soon? Absolutely not, and that is what makes his poor performance to date so depressing.
We could be looking 2-3 more seasons of wacky Bob.
Well Zoo you can always watch a soap opera, which may be more to your liking or not. This is real life and things do not come with any guarantee. This has just about talked to death. Oops this is a soap opera with an all male cast. Wah Wah Wah.
How about the fact that they are worse this year than last?
