I don't think Calhoun is the person to lead a transition to a new coach. He is not a coach who has a system. He coaches by his gut and guts. You cannot teach that. Also, he will quit when he is ready. Most athletes and coaches do not recognize when the time is right. There is never a perfect time and it often leads to an awkward departure. At some point, his wife and family need to tell him, it's time.

In all honesty, last year was the perfect time to retire - 3rd championship out of nowhere, the perception of a fully loaded team (despite the chemistry issues this year), and his health issues. By not going out on top, he tuns the risk of going all Bobby Bowden / Joe Paterno on you.

I think last year gave him some juice to keep going. I also think he's still very sharp.

I remember lip reading Bowden during games when he had a few years left and you could see his mouth going, "What Happened?" "Did he make it?" "I won’t do no sich dog on thing."
