My initial thought was "At least we have McNeeley this time around." Boy would that prove to be prophetic.
The score seemed to get stuck at 9 to 10 forever.
All our points from McNeeley until AK's bucket at 12:49
We were down 2 at 7:38 off Liam's FTs. Then things got a little squirrely and before you knew it, we were down 9.@ 4:38 and 14 at 3:48. Things were not looking good at that point.
Then came the TV timeout, and we came out after that a different team. Creighton would not score again before half time, and we went into the half facing a much less daunting 8 point deficit.
Less than 2 minutes into the 2nd half, we'd trimmed Creighton's lead to 1!
The refs just went nuts on us shortly after that, and it seemed like everything we did was a foul for a few minutes.
Coming out of a TV timeout at about 12 minutes, Karaban missed three 3 pointers in succession, on one possession. At that point, I thought that things were going south, and our recovery would be for naught.
Then McNeeley gives us the lead at 11:56
Solo on the line 1 & 1, up 2 with 19.5 left makes 1.
Creighton on the line 1&1 down 3. Misses 1st FT! 6.8 LEFT.
I'm not at all sure how we won. We got all of 4 points from our bench. 2 points from our combined centers. Karaban went 0 for 7 from 3. Ball was 4 for 15, including 0 for 4 from 3.
McNeeley was fearless. With the rest of the team off their collective game, he took it upon himself to win the damned game for us. He made 5 threes. Stewart's lone three was the only other one that went in the hole out of 26 three point attempts made by the team.
We played a lot of minutes with no true PG on the floor, and 13 minutes with no actual center on the floor. Got to give credit to Stewie for making believe he was a center in a very high pressure situation.

At this point, I can't help but wonder how many games playing without Liam cost us. I'd say that any of Nova, Xavier and the first Creighton game could have gone our way if we'd been whole.

Great win, but such a frustrating game to watch.

Li-Mac on top!
I don't see one ounce of frustration. We won in a place we have never won, including with two NC teams, in as hostile an environment as it gets, against a team that won 9 in a row. If you can't appreciate that..... Everything about yesterday's game was a work of art in my book. Takeaway is a gritty win, and establishing a true alpha scorer who is also a lineup swiss army knife that will free up and make every player around him better and offer a ton of versatility. If anything, my hope for this season has been resurrected. I knew he was good, that performance was beyond good.

Absolutely a great win that can't be underappreciated. I think I just let the excessive fouls and missed 3's get to me. You are right though, a masterclass in grit.

It's not a perfect team, but no team is. You just have to be better than the other imperfect teams. What's nice about the missed 3s is that it'll even out. Solo or AK couldn't have shot worse, and we still won. For me, the idea that we can still win with type of room for error increases our upside dramatically.

Other than the Dayton game, we could have won every single game since the differential was a shot or 2 I believe.

Had Liam not been injured, we would be 21-3 today, 13-0 in conference and riding a 17-game win streak. We would probably be Top 5 in the polls. And with all that, we would not be as good a team as we actually are today -- because Stewart and Ball would not have become the contributors they are today. Problem is, Karaban screwed himself up trying to be Liam and needs time to revert to Karaban.
