It helped that a couple were from very wealthy families. Part of what makes a program a Blue Blood is the ability to win over and over with new groups of players and coaches. We have epitomized that.

UConn is the best program of the modern era, the time since the tournament expanded to 64. This could go either way between UConn and Duke. UConn has 6 national championships to Duke's 5. Duke has been consistently better with way more final 4's but I give the nod to UConn because they won national championships under three different head coaches and won back to back with different rosters in the most dominant fashion in the modern era and Duke won theirs under only one coach. UConn is also the best current program. Ranking them historically is a bit tricky but this is my order for the top 10-

2nd tier (that I like to think of as former blue bloods who can get back to the first tier if they go on a run): UCLA, Indy.

3rd tier: Nova, Lou, MSU

4th tier, knocking on 3rd: Florida.

5th tier: everyone else except cuse and BC

6th tier: Cuse.

7th tier: all high school programs.

8th tier: BC

I have a hard time putting us over Duke because of our mediocre regular seasons a lot of years and our almost ten year draught. I know all of us like to say regular season wins don’t matter but they do.

My opinion is that Kansas, UCLA, Indiana, UNC, Kentucky and Duke all had old gilded-age Newport mansions right on the coast. Indy's fell into disrepair, so UConn demolished it and had Frank Gehry build something modern. UCLA's is in major disrepair waiting for someone to take it over.
