Bleacher Report Article calls Daniel Hamilton best scorer in Class of 2014.

Here's something from Mike DeCourcy, who ranks Hamilton #16 overall:
Hamilton’s approach to the game is not to everyone’s taste. He is not much for passing the basketball. But what he does well—score from the perimeter—he does better than most players on this list do whatever it is they do best. Hamilton is extremely quick, dribbles comfortably into his shot, can make shots in traffic and excels in transition. Unlike his brother Jordan, who never showed much aptitude for defense, Hamilton could be turned into a high-level defender because of his size and quickness.

I agree Bleacher Report stinks.

As for Hamilton not being able to pass, well he wasn't the best facilitator this summer. Not sure why, because he is more than capable. He was a bit selfish, I think it was a conscious thing.
 
There's nothing on Bleacher Report that's reputable.

I asked Eric Bossi, the Rivals.com recruiting analyst, why everyone was saying that Hamilton shoots too much and doesn't pass when early in the spring people were saying he played unselfishly and was a good passer. Bossi basically said don't worry about it. He said Hamilton did shoot a lot this summer and some of his shot selection wasn't great. But he said he'd rather have a guy who shoots and makes a lot of them than someone who can make baskets but doesn't shoot enough. Easier to tone down a shooter rather than get someone to shoot. He said Hamilton makes a lot of his shots so why shouldn't he shoot.

Bossi also mentioned that sometimes people shift how they evaluate recruits after they commit. Before a commitment it's about looking at what a recruit does well that people like him. After committing they shift to what a recruit doesn't do well that will prevent him from being successful.
 
When you're the best player on your team and you're unselfish, the coach will usually try to get you to be more aggressive. That's my guess; Hamilton's coach told him that they're a better team when he's putting the ball in the hoop, so he started shooting more.

We've had a few too many passive (albeit good) players in recent years who probably would have benefited from a little extra assertiveness. I don't have a problem with it.

Oh and remember Rashad Anderson? Never met a shot he didn't like.

Really excellent post. Would have liked it a dozen times if the option were there.
 
Bleacher Report has poor credibility in general and relies on shocking headlines to get viewers. It's plausible with his commitment out of the way that Daniel will look to balance out his game more in his senior season. The kid can score in bunches though and with Purvis in the fold our slashing/midrange game could be pretty deadly. That's going to open up a lot of opportunities for Omar and other guys to do serious damage out on the perimeter. I think since we got him early we've all been a bit subdued in our excitement about this kid. He is a huge get for this program on so many levels, can't wait to see him lace em up.

So true. If we got a commitment from a top 20 kid in late August or early September, this board would crash.

Shad would take his first shot at the scorers table.
 
Fortunately for us during some huge moments Shad rarely took a shot we didn't like. That 2004 Regional Final game against Alabama was one of the most enjoyable games I've ever watched. He and Ben were just shredding those guys and we never had to sweat it out for a minute.

Rashad was pretty amazing that whole tournament and without his 2 threes against Duke we lose. I always get upset when I think about the following year, Rashad looked great early in the season and I really think we were going to be a great team but then Rashad got staph infection and a whole bunch of other stuff happened.

John, the Duke contributions were huge no doubt, I guess I just remember the Bama game vividly because it was one of the rare tournament games that I still had fingernails afterwards. Dunkers are fun to watch but for me there's nothing as enjoyable as watching a great shooter when he's in a zone.

It's funny, if you look at the 2000,2005 and 2012 teams, each team returned a high percentage of its core and seemed to have the potential to make a deep run into the tournament. IMHO, a Championship hangover is something that can't easily be discounted, especially when guys who just won a ring are focusing on a future pro career. That 2004-2005 team had some defensive deficiencies and seemed to be missing something all year. Not many teams could withstand losing the 2nd and 3rd picks in the NBA Draft but on paper that was an extremely talented team.
