So the first game for the Huskies was against a high school team from Willimantic in 1902, but unlike the UTenn Vols who lost their first game to Knoxville HS 6-4 two years before, the UConn team (okay, really the Connecticut Agriculture College "young ladies," affectionately known as C.A.C, maybe better than the S.A.C. it had been three years earlier) romped to a 15-6 offensive blowout in its first game.
The team is shown below in a vintage photo adorning Mark Roy's great article about the team for the UConn Advance's March 11, 2002 edition. The young ladies went on to UConn\C.A.C.'s first undefeated season as the team took Willimantic again by a torrid 25-6 in game 2, with History prof's daughter Marjorie Monteith taking on the role of DT by knocking down 6 threes. (And yes, all shots were worth 3 back then except free throws.)
But getting back to that post title, who did hit that first bucket (and 3-pointer) for UConn?
See below.
Grace Koons, daughter of former college president. And as far as I know, there have been no calls for a return to the 1902 unis for any of next year's games.
