Only one roster spot left. Who gets it?
This was from PRE-SEASON.Ummm, Blanca joining UConn is old news or did I miss something?
I have no idea what you mean. I replied to the OP that was referring to Blanca as if her joining UConn was new news. Ever since Azzi announced her return a while ago, there's only been one 2025-2026 roster spot available which has been the subject of many posts in many threads. This was from PRE-SEASON.
here's an implication.........Q is in the transfer portal.......I have no idea what you mean. I replied to the OP that was referring to Blanca as if her joining UConn was new news. If you listen, he’s talking about what this team will look like this year, and also discusses some future recruits. Agot Makeer is no longer a recruit.I have no idea what you mean. As much as I love Ms Shade, if she's not starting next season then Blanca must be as good as advertised.....The implication it is going to be tough for Ash to be a starter.
Other than being born outside of the United States, Blanca and Gandy have very little in common.......Blanca was a basketball prodigy who was sent to Italy at a young age to polish her skills leading to her playing well with and against far older players some of whom have WNBA experience...... Gandy came to the United States with limited basketball experience and has used her high school years to develop into a functional but still somewhat raw basketball player......I expect Blanca to either start at the forward position or come in early off the bench next season while Gandy will continue to hone her skills under UConn's tutelage and will most likely serve as a backup to Jana, Ice and hopefully another 6'4" player arriving via the transfer portal.....I'm thrilled to have both of them on the UConn roster.....All you people are conjecturing and you have not seen Blanca play a single NCAA game.
She is raw and I see her as a developmental case as I would Gandy.
Only Kellis Fisher has shown that she has natural talent and might have a greater chance in being successful in the NCAA.
No but many of us have seen her play at the professional levelAll you people are conjecturing and you have not seen Blanca play a single NCAA game.

Not sure why no mention of Cheli. While tough to be 100% the first season back from injury but early in the last season she showed great basketball IQ, strong 3 point shot, and surprisedly good rebounding. Doubt Morgan will be a starter but likely to compete with Bianca and others for significant minutes. As much as I love Ms Shade, if she's not starting next season then Blanca must be as good as advertised.....
Blanca regularly outscores said WNBA players. Many links to highlights on BY and Youtube. Her team is in the league playoffs where competition typically has at least three WNBA players. Oh and in her last game against Dorka, she outplayed her and had a nasty block. Blanca has megastar talent. The question is how well she will blend in with UConn culture and how good the on-court fit will be. The good news for Geno is that I think he is going to relish being able to yell at her in Italian.Bianca plays for Campobasso in the Italian Series A League and averages 24.7mpg and 10.9ppg in league play. This is the league that Dorka plays in, there are several other players with WNBA experience, and the teams don't embarrass themselves in Euro competitions.
Morgan became more of an Aubrey-type floor player as the season went on and showed an unwillingness to shoot from the arc and in general. She has a wide repertoire of shots so that was troubling. She is a very smart defender and had a lot of deflections, rebounds, etc. In my mind, she would have been part of the NCAA rotation. I don't see her as the offensive player either Ash or Blanca is but certainly someone who will make any team better. She may come back as a more aggressive offensive player and at 6'2" she can be a tough player to defend if that part of her game blossoms. Not sure why no mention of Cheli. I think Cheli will get her minutes but they will likely come off the bench as she is another player who can bring energy at both ends of the court......Shade has proven to be the better shooter at this point, and she also offers a deep two way skill set that will be needed for UConn to repeat as champs next season......if Quinonez is as good as advertised (I've heard Gabby Williams comparisons) she will get the starting nod eventually if not from day one just as Sara did......Not sure why no mention of Cheli. A “bucket-getter,” that’s what you’re talking about. I loved that about Paige more than anything else. She was money in the midrange. The usual stats don’t capture this about her game: when the team is struggling to score, she steps up with a bucket that boosts everyone’s confidence. What UConn needs most in my opinion is a player who (like Paige) gives her teammates total confidence as a go-to scorer, and sets the tone as a big time defender. Sounds like Sarah, doesn't it?
I'm pretty confident Blanca will get buckets.........she's great in transition, has the requisite skills to get her own shot and is fearless in taking the ball to the basket with superb body control giving her the ability to finish in traffic.......between Blanca, KK and Kelis, UConn has a whole lot of kamikaze drivers to the basket......should be fun to watch......A “bucket-getter,” that’s what you’re talking about. This does sound like Sarah. And Azzi. And I think Ash will also be that for Geno if that’s what he tells her to do. She is not as skilled as Paige at getting her shot off — that step back move in the midrange got better every season — but Ash is also pretty much money if she gets it off. Ash will supply whatever the team needs. That’s her mindset. And she is as feisty on defense as anyone.
Can Blanca do all this too? Only time will tell. But if she’s not quite there year in November-December, she’ll be able to watch Ash Sarah and Azzi to figure out how it’s done.
I hope she is incredible.lots of interesting comments
what I find curious as many comments, which seem to question ability to transition from European professional basketball to US college
I find this nonsensical as the transition from American high school basketball to college is much greater
the talent is obvious and a player who can leave
central america ,play away from home against professionals learn a new language and thiive
would certainly be well positioned to
make a smooth transition to college bb
