Just wanted to pass along something about the tournament that was briefly mentioned in the Courant.

There is going to be a very large exhibit on the All American Red Heads, Friday and Saturday at the Big East Championships.

This is going to feature around 40 2x3 foot poster size frames with artifacts dating back to the 1930s right up until their last year in 1986.

Many uniforms dating back to the 1950s when they wore mid-riffs will be on display as well as ball bags, a 10x10 quilt made out of remnants of old uniforms, and so much more.

Players are coming in from states like Texas, Minn, Arkansas, Missouri, Florida, etc and even 1 from right here in CT.

Some of them will perform the same halftime routines they did before millions of fans over the years.

I hope that if you go one of those 2 days, you will stop by and say hi. Would be great to meet some of you.

They will also be on Better CT with Scot Haney on Thursday, March 1st and Wayne Normans radio show out of Willimantic earlier that day.

A bit on the RH's if you dont know much about them.

During their 50 years of exitance, the Red Heads only played mens teams and by their rules (full court as opposed to the 6 on 6 game).

They would play upwards and over 200 games in a season winning over 85% of the time by the 1970s. They played in many towns in CT, as well as Canada, Mexico and the Philipines.

They appeared on shows like Ed Sullivan and I've Got a secret, while appearing in magazines like Life, Look and Sports Illustrated.

They were the first womens basketball team to be selected as finalists into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010.

They are only 1 of 2 teams ever to be honored as 'Pioneers of the Game' by the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011.

They love to tell stories of their playing days in Alaska before Eskimo's, on Indian Reservations, against professional sports teams like the Boston Patriots (now the New England Patriots).

One of them was on a team that won a record 96 games in a row in 96 days. A Red Head from CT will also be in attendence.

They look forward to meeting fans and signing autographs.
