UT does like 10. But the formula under the new playoff system will disadvantage any conference without a CCG. Hence the request. Once declined, they will need to go shopping.
That's what I think, too. B-10 SEC and PAC aren't going to let the B-12 champ take a playoff spot because their champ gets upset in a Conference Championship game while the B-12 champ sat home watching it all on tv.

Are they shopping for the league, or to get out of the league? That is the question.

EDIT UT being "they".

IMO, the answer here is 100% that they are shopping for the league. They want to be in control, and the B12 is in a position of relative power. Going to the PAC or B1G is a last resort if the B12 falls apart. Given the condition of the ACC, it would seem pretty easy to pluck two from there and call it a day.

Definitely. I don't think UT cares for the Pac one bit. I think they'd swipe the Arizona schools in a heartbeat and take Colorado back and Utah if they got their wish list. Add Mizzou and Arkansas too.

I share that opinion. Texas gets special treatment in the B-12 that they would never get in the PAC or the B-10. It is why they didn't go to the PAC last time around. And while they like 10, they also know they'll be penalized by not having a title game as the de facto first round of the palyoffs, so they will try to expand if necessary.
