Where does the Jones transfer rank in the history of WCBB? What would be considered the top 5?

I would have to say Michelle Marciniak to Tenn for ME! lol Its hard to rank current transfers because we don't know what impact they would have on the team they're transfering too just yet but if I took a stab at it I'd say 1.Diamond to Tenn 2.Natalie Butler to UCONN 3. Alexis Jones to Baylor...IMO

Sheryl Swoopes left Texas after a couple of weeks. Went to JUCO, and then landed at Texas Tech for her final two seasons.

It's a big transfer, no doubt. Not close to top 5 ever if you ask me. For the top 5 transfers ever, I think you have to consider how big of an impact they made on the team they transferred to, how big of an effect them transferring out leaves on the previous school, and how well the individual flourished throughout her career.

Some transfers that could be considered as bigger:
Elena Delle Donne-UCONN to Delaware. At UCONN for 4 years, EDD most likely takes home a NPOY award and 3 championships. UCONN still won 2 during those 4 years and made 4 straight Final Fours, but I think those UCONN teams in 2009 and 2010 would be remembered as the very best UCONN teams of all time (above 2002/2014) if EDD is in that lineup and has chemistry with her teammates.

Diamond DeShields-North Carolina to Tennessee. A lot remains to be seen, but NC would be a title contender this year with DeShields, now they fall back to the 8-15 range without her. Tennessee fans believe she might be the missing ingredient to put Tennessee back on top for the first time since Candace Parker.

Michelle Marciniak-Notre Dame? to Tennessee. A huge get for Tennessee, Marciniak was a HS POY and went on to lead Tennessee to 2 title game appearances and one championship. She made huge plays in the 1996 Final Four and was named the Most Outstanding Player.

Destiny Williams-Illinois to Baylor. Williams played a crucial role for Baylor during their 2012 title run and strong seasons in 2011 and 2012. A great rebounder and finisher inside, she was a very underrated player at Baylor.

Nicole Erikson/Michelle Van Gorp-Purdue to Duke. Van Gorp and Erikson left after Dunn was fired at Purdue, both players ended up at Duke where they became the focal point of Duke's team and were the stars of the 99 team that put Duke women's basketball on the map.

Sa'de Wiley Gatewood-Tennessee to Maryland. SWG never made a big impact at Maryland, but her leaving Tennessee instantly ruined Tennessee's title chances. Early in the 2005-06 season, Tennessee had all the makings to be one of Pat Summitt's best teams ever. They had a great backcourt in SWG/Hornbuckle/Zolman and one of the best front courts in Parker/Anosike/Spencer/Fluker. SWG quits midseason leaving Tennessee without a true point guard, Hornbuckle takes over the duties before breaking her wrist toward the end of the season, leaving Tennessee with Parker/Zolman running the show. With SWG, Tennessee was beating ranked opponents by 20+ ppg, beat the eventual National Champion (Maryland) in addition to several other strong teams.

I think Alexis Jones is more talented than many of these players, but I don't think her presence will influence these teams like the players listed above (and I'm sure there are more I forgot about). Duke will go from a good team to average/above average team without Jones, and Baylor goes from a 10-20 team to a potential Final Four threat in a couple of years.

A nice thread with worthy responses, and it is understandable that no one, as yet, has come up with the biggest transfer of all time, the transfer having occurred quite a while back.
The biggest transfer of all time, without a close second is Venus Lacy transferring from Old Dominion to Louisiana Tech. It is the biggest on two levels:
1. Ms Lacy, herself, one of the greatest WCBB players of all time.
2. She transferred from one WCBB powerhouse to another powerhouse.

You are missing one huge transfer.

Brittany Hunter, from Duke to Connecticut. She was the consensus #1 ranked player in the high school class of 2003. She transferred from a team had made three Final Fours in a period of six years to a team that had just won its fifth national title in ten years.

Yeah but, she could barely walk.

Big, at least among the top 10:
Tracy Claxton transferring from Kansas to Old Dominion.

Due to injuries, this one should not make the list. Hunter had some good moments, but was hardly a big impact player for UConn

I discounted Hunter since it was unclear when she transferred if she would play much ever again. As a result, it wasnt that big a loss for Duke and not that big a gain for UConn.

wasn't Carey a medical issue - Stanford team doctors refused to clear her to play again, Texas was willing to.

Lacy was unremarkable in her time at ODU though, averaging 3.7 pts and 4.7 reb per game.

She had a number of concussions - several of them very serious - and frequently had headaches, memory problems, and other symptoms. Her first dated back to 7th grade. In today's environment, I doubt any medical staff would clear her to play - and frankly I'm surprised Texas cleared her then. BTW, it wasn't just Stanford's regular doctors who said she should never play again but also several neurologists and other specialists.

If I'm not mistaken, UT was doing some specialty concussion work at the time, which played a role in the decision to clear her.

I think that this is the first time a national freshman of the year has transferred. Diamond has a lot of talent and she hasn't even reached her prime yet. A scary thought.

Lets see maybe ETT to a Baylor board where someone actually cares about Baylor where you can be you if you are the right religion and not openly gay!
