Big East's Next Media Deal

Ok, you’re upset. I’m sorry for your loss. Are you disputing the conference got along fine without you heathens? I know you are the basketball capital of the entire world and all but… that court will be the gift that gives and gives an gives. Great work!

Best part is you skipped past College Basketball Capital and went right to the Basketball Capital of the entire world. It’s cringe as heck, but hilarious in its myopic arrogance at the same time.
Go wallow in your parochial BS...

The basketball capital of the world. Lol if you really were you don’t have to say it. Cringe
UConn has to be the only state university in the US that people expect to give up and stop trying to compete at football or to promote its successes at basketball in its efforts to find a suitable home that will support all of its athletic programs. It's like we're not real people. We have to abandon everything and just twiddle our thumbs or something, while watching everyone else get a turn. I'm sick of this excrement. I don't want to lose FBS football after already losing the Whalers. I swear, if I get season tickets to something, outside folks try to shut it down. These Catholic Big East schools got together and forced us to choose between football and staying in the Big East (functionally), and then socked us with huge exit fees when we rejoined 8 years later because the AAC wasn't working for us. It's like being a punching bag.

Of course, PC does fine without us. It's with us when they have their problems. That's why their glory years were the 60's and early-70's. Back when they wouldn't play UConn.

Jay Bilas? This gets better and better.
(Anyone else notice that our Friar friend sounds an awful lot like August? There was a thread on the Providence board that talked about this as well.)

But yeah... Jay Bilas

So add five years and another three championships and the case that Bilas made gets even stronger.

I think a better coach would have done better.
Agreed. Edsall 1.0 was flawed as well. His offense always was unimaginative and outdated. He got some breaks here and there, but UConn definitely could have done better.

Edsall 2.0 completely and literally screwed UConn to its current situation. If UConn had good football, we would be in the P3 right now. Edsall 2.0 was one of the worst if not the worst in the entire country. UConn should have let him walk after year 1 but they held on to him way too long. UConn is suffering right now big time due to inept football.

.-.
Edsall 2.0 was virtually the same as 1.0. He just didn’t have the same work ethic in the end.

College football changed and he refused to adapt.
Yep. Stubborn and unimaginative. Added lazy the 2nd time around. There was a breakdown by an opposing coach that got printed where he pointed out that what you saw pre snap was exactly what was coming on both sides of the ball. No mystery to what they were trying to do was how it was explained.

And nobody good wanted to work for him.

We don’t have to, others say it for us.
2009:
Nobody would have a problem with College Basketball Capital of the World. That wasn’t good enough for you guys though. That is why you will be ridiculed. Deservedly so. That is unless Jay Bilas himself painted it on your floor. Insecure at a level that’s hard to imagine.

Nobody cares about this but you. Why are you so triggered by this?

Look at it this way, it gives you and other PC fans something to criticize us about on your forum (the monastery? the rectory? whatever it's called). You don't have much ammunition to criticize the basketball program these days.

Could you imagine Alabama painting “FOOTBALL CAPITAL OF THE WORLD” into their end zones?

I don’t know what to call it. Just keep your small male children far, far away from it.

Could you imagine the Dallas Cowboys embracing the nickname "America's Team" after someone over at NFL Films coined it for a highlight film? And then other teams attempting to claim the moniker as they became popular? Oh, wait. That happened.

Could you imagine professional sports leagues in the US referring to their titleholders as "world champions" when all of the teams are located in the United States, or maybe a couple in Canada, while no one else participates in the competition? Oh, wait, that always happens.

Anything to keep UConn from getting their due, including mandatory ignoring of their women's basketball accomplishments as part of the school's basketball legacy.

Here is the thing you keep glossing over. What Storrs was called was the College Basketball Capital of the World (by a talking head at that) that is NOT what you chose to paint on the floor. Listen, you’re right, it’s your floor. If you are not embarrassed by the proclamation then good on you. Not sure how the B12 could have left the BASKETBALL CAPITAL OF THE WORLD off of their invite list.

And here's the thing you keep glossing over (though I think you're just trolling): UConn needs to toot its own horn right now precisely because it keeps getting passed over in conference realignment. Being humble has done jack squat for UConn over the last 15 years on that front. Alabama is already in the top tier of the club; they have nothing to prove, nothing more to gain. We're not. We're out on the fringe, and we could wind up having to downgrade or drop all of our sports programs eventually if we don't change the status quo and consolidation keeps happening without us. Hell, we won an NC in basketball and made the Fiesta Bowl in the same calendar year, and still managed to get passed over months later, and we're still talking about why that happened.

This is, again, a state university for 3.6 million people that WANTS those programs and is willing to bend over backwards to succeed in most sports. The folks in the athletic department are trying to keep the spotlight on UConn as much as they can, because Connecticut gets forgotten/ignored all the time. Hell, there are people posting here who didn't even realize we had a football program. If PC was trying to promote itself, I wouldn't go to your message board and make fun of you for trying to impact the narrative instead of playing nice and then getting left behind.

You are right, I am glossing over that. I wasn’t aware this was for that reason.

Red Wings are Hockey Town, Greenbay is Title Town. It's a fun thing. We like to have fun.
I’m on board with CBB capital of the world. Well deserved. Nothing else like it in my lifetime, and I’m old. UCLA cheated.

I feel bad for you because UConn clearly owns a large portion of your head. Why don't you focus all of your attention on your own school?!

We did just fine without you 10 years ago. Now you’re here and I’m worried. Thanks
Seriously Villanova’s improbable success saved that conference.from borderline irrelevance.
With Nova suffering post HOF coach syndrome. and the other traditional eastern power Georgetown a disaster . That conference was in trouble . The UConn addition and subsequent NC , add in Marquette ( Shaka) and Xavier ( Miller) making good hires luring one of my favorites Rick to a tired St John’s , A great coach but a better entertainer with Creighton in good hands . Even a decent coach like Cooley at GT could be huge . That conference has never looked stronger despite ??? at Villanova and PC . Butler and DePaul suck
The only thing you’re worried about is us leaving but if we do and it’s a big if it’s stronger than ever and the next contract should reflect that . Our departure may cost <$2miilion a team but still a bump from the current contract . Which the way BB is compensated remarkable.,

I’m worried about UConn leaving. You got me Clouseau

If you’re not you’re completely irrational. Because it means a smaller media contract plus UConn’s run this year alone earned $10,000,000 for the Big East with a good possibility of continued strong showings * The PC athletics budget doesn’t run on Ava Maria’s so our success is in your self interest and visa versa .
Needling a rival in the right spirit is fun and welcomed also harmless .However it’s a slippery slope to acrimony and pure hatred.
If you reading and posting here becomes a near occasion. then I would take a break and reflect.

Every team going independent for football while while Olympic sports in regional conferences make a ton of sense, which is why it will never happen.

If we keep trending up that will change. And you can already see that. UConn football has been less fun than a funeral up until last season going back to Year 1 of Pasqualoni.
I would say that UConn football was terrible during Edsall as well. Sure we won some games, but it was all a run game e no creativity.

Thing about Mora is that the team is competitive and fun to watch. Looking forward to seeing people fill the seats again with a couple more years of winning seasons.
