The Huskies’ conference tournament will be staying in the same place. The conference will be different, but the venue may be the same for UConn women’s basketball’s next conference tournament, whenever that is.

With the Huskies re-joining the Big East, the conference will move its postseason tournament from Chicago — where it was held for the last three years — to Mohegan Sun Arena, according to Providence athletic director Bob Driscoll.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. The move into the Big East Conference hasn't become official yet (July 1), but it has already begun to pay dividends. Local UConn fans will love this news. :D

That's great news. I was wondering if the Catholic schools in the BE would object to the tourney being held at a casino.
I thought Catholic "Bingo Night" was a thing.

"St. Agatha’s Catholic Church in Milton, Massachusetts is sometimes referred to as the “Caesar’s Palace of Massachusetts bingo.” On Monday nights as many as 400 people show up to compete for the $3,000 top prize. In 2009 St. Agatha’s and the other licensed bingo hall in Milton generated more than $1.2 million in gross revenue. Bingo generated $44 million in revenue in all of Massachusetts that year. The proceeds from St. Agatha’s supports the grammar school. Bingo is the school’s largest fundraiser."

"Like St. Agatha’s, many Catholic parishes have become dependent on gambling revenue from bingo and raffle tickets in light of dwindling numbers of parishioners and lower overall giving. It is not uncommon for a parish to fund its building project or a youth group event with a raffle, sometimes with exorbitant ticket prices, such as $50 tickets that offer the chance to win anything from a flat screen TV to a new Mustang convertible."

It makes too much sense. It is great venue for the tournament and Connecticut fans will pack the place.

As a UConn fan, I have mixed emotions on this decision. Sure, UConn will be playing at their home away from home, in front of a large pro-UConn crowd. But my long term hope is that the NBE achieves an elevated status as a basketball conference that the AAC never did. In order to achieve that goal, the NBE needs to develop competitive rivalries with a big time conference championship tournament in the Windy City. Just my 2 cents.

Like a $ardine can!! :D Conference officials will go where the money is. The money is at Mohegan Sun Arena. The UConn faithful will be there in droves. If that venue proves to be a “cash cow” for the conference, the tournament will have found a new home.

The amount of the revenue receipts will dictate the direction they'll take on this. Money talks, and as long it it says "Mohegan Sun Arena", the conference tourney will remain there. ;)

Eric, the answer to any question about money is money. Bingo wouldn't exist in this country without the Church.

For a Huskie fan it just doesn't get any better. I only wish it was Foxwoods. Their poker room is soooo much better.

This is great for all the players. I'm sure they'll have a better time at the Sun than where ever else it would be held.

It took me a minute to get what you are referring to, but I can’t take credit for it. That was 100% cut and paste. The headline is that of the reporter. However.......upon further review, if UConn can continue to conduct themselves in similar fashion as they did in the AAC, i.e., dominate your opponents and become the elephant in the room, it would be fair to refer to the tournament as UConn’s Conference Tournament. I think that is what we all expect UConn to do. Dominate the NBE the same way they did the American.

As a lifelong catholic, we would never object to this.
