With the conference realignment many wrote off the Big East and basically thought teams like Seton Hall and Providence would fall even further into irrelevancy. Seton Hall just punched their ticket today to make it their 4th straight NCAA tournament and Providence made 5 straight before this season. These were two programs who were in a decade drought of not making the tournament.

Call it what you want but no programs have benefited and stepped up their games more than those two programs when many claimed big basketball games were over for them. We all know how Nova benefited but these two other northeast programs have seen their fortunes change tremendously.

I still love watching the Big East and root for northeast basketball.

The Big East’s current reputation is entirely wrapped in and dependent of Villanova’s success.

When Villanova falls off, the conerence’s reputation will fall off the table.

The programs just are not very good.

Is the NBE ascending? Hmmm...

Will this be a first?

Compared to what? Houston is 28-2 and nobody even knows they have a decent basketball team. When is Nova falling off?

The same people who said the conference wouldn't be able to compete anymore and that the AAC would be better are still saying it after Nova won 2 championships and the conference was getting 60% and 70% of the league in the tournament in back to back years.

We get it, you want UConn in the Big East, it isn't happening.

Football isn't going away nor should it.

I think the AAC has more upside than the Big East. There are several teams in large growing metro areas. Once they establish themselves as Houston is doing, their cities will embrace them. Larry Brown had SMU going too until the off court stuff caught up with him. SMU has a very affluent alumni base in metro Dallas. UCF has already done it in football. Danny and Penny are on their way to restoring UConn and Memphis to MBB glory days. WSU, Cincy and Temple can be solid too and two of these teams are in NFL size metro areas. My man Chill is recruiting at ECU, trying to reel in some big tunas.

College realignment, like life, is a marathon, not a sprint. The Big East will not have the endurance to finish strong.

Hmmm. Wonder if that has happened before

The programs improved dramatically though and adding Xavier, Butler, and Creighton ensured the league would not only last but would succeed going forward. DePaul even seems to be on the upswing and there are no easy wins which can't be said about the AAC. They also know exactly who they are right now, which also can't be said for the AAC.
couldn't disagree more. AAC knows exactly who they are. The two premier programs are rebuilding with new coaches. The league is likely to get 3 or maybe four bids. And that's with Uconn, Memphis and Wichita having down years. Yeah, great for Big East.
Pretty bullish on AAC in next 2-3 seasons.

Memphis is killing it recruiting wise under Penny. They are going to be fun to watch the next couple years.
