Saw this on the Big East Website.

Since opening its doors in 1979, the league has won 32 national championships in six different sports and 137 student-athletes have won individual national titles through 2011-12.
I know that UConn has won national championships in Men's and Women's basketball, Men's Soccer, Women's Field Hockey. Villanova in Cross Country and basketball, Georgetown in basketball, and Syracuse in LaCrosse and basketball. There are several national runner up schools.
Anyone know the championships by school since 1979 - seeing as this is the last of what was once known as The Big East? (The Atlantis of college sports.)

Notre Dame - wbb 2011
wsoc 1995, 2004 2010
fencing 1994, 2003, 2005, 2011

Miami - 1991, 2001

Runners Up (Outside of 1999 and 2002, schools often could share a title and the top teams never matched up)
Virginia Tech - 1999
West Virginia - 1993
Miami - 1992, 1995, 2002

I seem to remember UConn winning several national championships in something to do with horses. Perhaps polo? I think they won two not so long ago.
