Not sure there is much surprising in this one. Georgetown landing behind St John's might be one.

WHY UCONN AS UNANIMOUS NO. 1?

“Huge commitment resource-wise, rabid fan base, and let’s be honest they have been a legit blue blood for over two decades now. In addition, Dan Hurley and his staff have done a tremendous job creating a brand and style of play that now attracts the best and most skilled high school players in the country. That thing will stay at the top or near the top of our sport as long as he is there.”

“They have been as successful as any other program in the country over the last 30 years, and they have the resources to go along with that tradition. It also helped that Jim Calhoun was there as long as he was, and even with the blip ofKevin Ollie, Dan Hurley has gotten it back. Players want to go to UConn – even though it’s in the middle of nowhere.”

Wonder who that coach is.

Surprised Creighton is so high. Were they any good before McDermott? Coaches seem to think SJU is all about Pitino and Repole but they also have some tradition/history. Take away Greg and what does Creighton have?

Dana Altman coached prior to McDermott from 1994-2010 with a 640 win percentage. McDermott around 660 win percentage.

ACC Rankings

ON BC UNANIMOUSLY BEING PICKED LAST: “No one cares. It’s the third sport on campus behind hockey and football in a pro sports town. Conte Forum is a ghost town unless Duke or North Carolina are coming in. There’s money, but they aren’t spending it on basketball.”
ACC went out of their way to bring BC in for their hockey program......... lol

They have 17k a night attendance, 6th in the country. Omaha is a major economic city with Fortune 500 companies and no other sports. Considering both previous points, the NIL is good (multiple 5* transfers this past season). McDermott makes a good chunk of money, which matters for a best job list. They've made three Sweet 16s in the last 6 years. Altman made 7 tournaments there from the MVC.

Providence is too low with their fanbase and their resources.
I’d put them at least ahead of Xavier. Based on their recent uptick in funding, might even move them ahead of Georgetown. Seems crazy but the Georgetown alumni base just could not give less of a turd about the program IMO.

Dana Altman did a very good job at Creighton before McDermott. They also had different periods of some success as a Missouri Valley school.

I would say that the only BE schools that don't have at a minimum a good fan base (most are very good or better) are Georgetown, DePaul, St John's and Seton Hall. Hall is a smaller school with lot if history, the other three have historically only had solid fan support when the teams were very good.

I've said it before: Georgetown gets points for compensation, but the fan base is burned out from years of institutional indifference and they have not returned. The PC fire-breathers think it's all about Cooley. It's not. You could drop Bill Self into Washington tomorrow and it doesn't change the problem.

The issues inside the gates at Georgetown are not easily understood and are not easily addressed by the job. Cooley is finding this out the hard way.

I don’t think so. Cincinnati is very different from the northeast and Xavier is a local institution. So is the University of Cincinnati . Locals care about them.

Georgetown is philosophically much closer to an Ivy League school than a major college basketball school. And they’ve been bad for a long time. Recently alumni have little interest in the program because it really wasn’t worth following. Lastly alums leave town for other parts of the country. They aren’t flying in from LA or even NY twice a week to watch bad basketball.

One of the craziest things about Georgetown is the fact that they play in a HS gym on campus despite the history they have.

Probably doesn’t help that they don’t seem to have great relationships with their legends either.

Where are you getting that from? I think it's the exact opposite.

Georgetown plays 15 home games at Capital One Arena which seats over 20,000, they play 2 home games at McDonough Arena.

Which is a far cry from being able to split games equally on their home campus and arena like we do.

They can’t do it because their home arena is a HS gym. It’s not hard for students to get to Capital One but I’d imagine it would be nice to play big games there which is impossible.

I’m not sure how many other teams in college basketball don’t play any of their big games on campus.

Only one I disagree with there a bit is Seton Hall. Small fan base in total number, but credit to them they fill out the lower bowl at Prudential Center and make a good amount of noise.

Georgetown and DePaul are morgues, and St John's may be that way once Pitino leaves.

Dana Altman has, relatively quietly, put together a great coaching career. 15 straight 20 win seasons. 26 out of his last 27 seasons he has had 20 wins.

Georgetown’s alumni base has deep pockets.
