Big East Conference Game Thread- March

I don't gamble so maybe I'm not reading this right. PC is a 9.5 dog at Nova. Easy money right? Poor PC.

Providence has 9 (!!!) days off between this Nova game and their first game in the BET due to their covid scheduling issues. If that was us, I would be scared we come out insanely flat. I think they go 0-3 from here on out. L to Nova, L in BET, L to 13/14 seed.

.-.
lol there's good reason why they do
I think we would be favored on a neutral court against the regular season champs. These BET spreads are going to be interesting. Like is St John’s favored over them playing in the garden?I think they may be.

Vegas HATES Providence.
I see both sides of the coin.

Providence has the easiest Big East schedule on paper and they've had very good luck playing teams without their best players. No chance they win if Sanogo was in, and there are many more examples not worth my time looking up now.

However, they resemble a team that I tend to "trend up" in March.

Why?
  • They're comfortable playing slow.
  • They're physical.
  • They have a diverse group scorers that can give teams tough matchups depending on what their opponents are like (Watson, Durham, Bynum, Reeves, Horchler, etc)
  • After crapping on him in the preseason, Jared Bynum has really stepped up as that bucket-getter lead guard that elite tournament teams tend to have.
Before the Boneyard comes at me with pitchforks, UConn has the exact same recipe too.

Nova would have to lose to PC and @Butler for UCONN to have a chance to finish 2nd. That likely won't happen.
This is the best season PC has had in forever so I would think they make the best of it, pedal to the metal, get the highest seed possible. An upset win over Nova would be a big step in possibly working to a 2 seed.

UCONN vs Creighton - the fight for 4th place? You take it, no you take it.

Screw it. I’m on Nova -9.5. Providence has nothing to play for and Nova is coming off a loss. Feels like a blowout to me.

Neither of them really have anything to play for aside from NCAA tournament seeding (technically we could take the 4 seed, but that requires them losing to Butler next game, so this game doesn't matter). Maybe take the over as the defenses might be a little lax?

i feel like the BE has been getting screwed this year with these 6:30 tips

Couple things to keep in mind - Nova has had 7 days off so maybe some rust to knock off and they've had backcourt injuries they're nursing, too, so they may limit starter minutes if it gets up to 15+ points in the second half (shades of our late second half Sunday vs. Georgetown?).

That said, I still think Nova wins by 10+ on campus.

.-.
Its going to be all about the match-ups in the NCAAs as usual
PC will likely see more teams that they don't match up with in the dance
BUT they have a mature team with lots of seniors and you can't discount maturity
They will go as far as Durham leads them - he is their key

Jeez, I wouldn't touch this game with a 50 foot pole.

Providence either wins close or gets blown out -- except for their game vs. Nova.

There's about a 50/50 chance of a nailbiter (Providence covers wire to wire) or Nova winning by 15-20.

Both teams playing like garbage. This version of Nova is less skilled than their typical team. They’re also more turnover prone. I like our chances against either of these teams in the BET if they play like they have been so far tonight.

Both tough formidable teams. Nova shoots better and they have this.

If you can defend your man 1v1 against Nova and don't fall for the pump-fake, they're very beatable

.-.
Does Arcadiacono get minutes as a favor to his brother?
I've watched him maybe 10-15 times and just can't figure it out, he's never looked good. I wonder if their board has the same Angelo Brizzi (recruit they "took" over Diggins) should be playing over him we have with Diggins/Gaffney

Providence is so clearly the 3rd best team behind UConn and Nova to me. I’d fear SH more if they had Aiken.

And now lavin is talking about they’re tired lmao

PC made their first three 3 pointers and lost their minds.

Dixon is listed at 6’8 looks more like 6’6 to me. But damn is he good fundamentally. He rarely makes a mistake.
