With all of 2020s games wrapped up let’s look at the current shakedown of the conference.

Current standings

1. #4 Villanova
• 8-1 (3-0)
• Wins: BC, ASU, Hartford, Texas, Georgetown, Butler, St. Joe’s, Marquette
• Losses: Virginia Tech (OT)
• Villanova looks to be the front runner to win the conference currently.

2. Seton Hall
• 7-4 (4-1)
• Wins: Iona, PSU (OT), Wagner, St. John’s, Marquette, Georgetown, Xavier
• Losses: Louisville, URI, Oregon, PC (OT)
• Seton Hall started their season slow but despite a blemish against PC have been great as of late. Look to be a top 5 team in the conference after dominating Xavier.

3. Providence
• 7-3 (3-1)
• Wins: Fairfield, Davidson, FDU, TCU, Seton Hall (OT), DePaul (2OT), Butler
• Losses: Indiana, Alabama, Butler
• PC is definitely a strong team in the conference, but has more to prove after a tough OOC outing against strong competition, and scraping by in close games in one of the easier schedules in the Big East so far

4. #11 Creighton
• 7-2 (3-1)
• Wins: NDSU, Omaha, Kennesaw St, Nebraska, St. John’s, UConn (OT), Xavier
• Losses: Kansas, Marquette
• Creighton, though a strong team, is a free throw and a wide open 3 away from 5-4 and 1-3. However, they are a tough team that knows how to win close games. They’ll be competitive and finish in the upper section of the conference... likely top 3.

5. UConn
• 4-1 (1-1)
• Wins: CCSU, Hartford, USC, DePaul
• Losses: Creighton (OT)
• Through only 2 conference games they’ve lived up the the preseason hype and look like a top 5 team in the conference. Defense is transferable and UConn has played stout defense so far. They are an inch away from perfection and likely a top 25 ranking. However, they seem to have put that game in the past and are playing with intensity. The return of Akok Akok could make this team a dangerous foe in 2021.

6. Xavier
• 8-2 (1-2)
• Wins: Oakland, Bradley, Toledo, EKU, Tenn Tech, Cinci, Oklahoma, Marquette
• Losses: Creighton, Seton Hall
• Aside from a beat down from Seton Hall, Xavier has been a solid team and appeared in the top 25 ranking. I still believe that Xavier is a top 5 team in the conference, and have some valuable pieces like Scruggs, Freemantle, and 6th man Kunkel.

7. Butler
• 2-4 (1-2)
• Wins: Western Michigan, Providence
• Losses: Villanova, Indiana, Southern Illinois, Providence
• So long as Aaron Thompson is injured, Butler will struggle and likely not be a top 7 team in the conference, but if he were to return Butler would be a wildcard team in the conference.

8. Marquette
• 5-5 (1-3)
• Wins: Ark-Pine Bluff, Eastern Illinois, Wisconsin, Green Bay, Creighton
• Losses: OKstate, UCLA, Seton Hall, Xavier, Villanova
• Marquette is a team a lot tougher than their record indicates. I would expect them to finish top 6 at least with potential if top 4 if they can play more consistent. Undoubtedly they’ve played the most difficult schedule thus far, so look for them to rise up the standings.

9. St. John’s
• 6-4 (1-3)
• Wins: St. Peter’s, La Salle, BC, Stony Brook, Rider, Georgetown
• Losses: BYU, Seton Hall, Georgetown, Creighton
• A young scrappy hard nosed team that at times is sloppy but has great potential to put it together and contest for a top 7 spot in the conference. High tempo team the complete opposite of UConn so it will be interesting to watch the two tough defense both with different methods to score the ball.

10. Georgetown
• 3-5 (1-3)
• Wins: UMBC, Coppin State, St. John’s
• Losses: Navy, WVU, Villanova, St, John’s, Seton Hall
• Another young team, not much room to go up with such a talented deep 1-7 in the conferences but look for them to build on their young core and be a threat for top 7 next season with their incoming recruiting class. Not a team to take lightly however, if they get hot from deep you’re in trouble. However senior Pickett has struggled recently, if he comes out of his slump look for them to improve.

11. DePaul
• 1-2 (0-2)
• Wins: Western Illinois
• Losses: Providence (2OT), UConn
• DePaul has suffered due to Covid practices, they are further behind than everyone else, so obviously with more practices they will improve and challenge Butler, St. John’s, and Georgetown for the 8th spot in the conference. DePaul has hope for the future with a stellar recruiting class, and returning most of their key contributors like Romeo Weems, Nick Ogenda, and Darius Hall. Also look for Koby Elvis to play a larger role next year. And Charlie Moore has the option to stay another year with the free eligibility. However, as for this season, a top 7 finish is unlikely.

Providence fan here and thanks for posting - I think your assessment of PC is very fair at this point in the season. I look forward to playing UConn, like most BE games it's going to be 2 tough games for sure!

With all their seniors, I can see Seton Hall continue to improve to the point of finishing the season as the 2nd best team in the conference.

We knew Mamu was going to be good, but the rise of Rhoden and Cale (combined 27.9 ppg compared to 15.1 ppg last year) is the catalyst to their success. If Bryce Aiken continues to get healthy, watch out.

The last two years, Seton Hall was Myles' team. This year, they're a true team.

Is there a way to figure what ranking we’d have on KenPom had we beaten Creighton/does anyone know that number?

that URI loss is a bad one and their game against Oregon was a blowout. Wish they coulve gotten the win against Louisville... Not ideal to have the 2nd best team a complete no show OOC. Would prefer Hall to settle in 3rd, or 4th behind us.

We need to play games. Seton Hall has played 11 games thus far. The committee is going to favor teams they’ve seen. Let’s pray USC wins the pac-12.
 
NCAA has always had it out for us. Just as we were playing some of the best bb in the country last year the virus hit. Coincidence? or NCAA plot?

if the 6 seed yes because that's against the 11 seed in the first round. but the 5th seed has a bye and plays the 4th seed in the second round. imo finishing 5th in the BE should be worthy of an at large bid, win or lose

They are lucky to win that. They did everything wrong the last couple of minutes- turnovers, missed front ends of 1 and 1's and fouling on their own ft.

Not sure what you mean, but I am questioning the chart shown in the post to which I was responding. It shows an overall record of 8-2 for 'Nova. I think they are 8-1.
