Big East Coaching Hot Seat/Departure Ranking

I can’t see Shaka being on the hot seat after one disappointing season. He’ll get a new job as soon as he wants it. Meanwhile, who they gonna get that’s better?
Josh Schertz?

English gone.

Cooley should be on the hot seat but will probably get another year.

Matta got hammered by injuries this season, but he has been there for a while and it isn't working out. I think he gets another year, but he may not want another year.

Holloway is a flight risk. Seton Hall is missing the tournament and it is hard to win at this school. He has the least talented team in the league every year since NIL, and it has to be getting old for Holloway.

McDermott probably comes back for another year. I don't think he wants to go out on this season, and Creighton can be competitive.

Hurley, Smart, Willard, Pitino, Pitino Jr., Holtmann appear to be solid to return.

This is nonsense.

Holtmann is getting interest from some teams. Wonder if DePaul will give him a raise.

Thad Matta is only 58 years old. I'm pretty sure he'll return.

McDermott is done.

I don't think Butler cans him. I do think there's a good chance he listens to offers from schools with better NIL situations.

This is nonsense.

From the ESPN link

Holloway has guided the Pirates to one of the biggest single-season improvements in the country in 2025-26, going from 7-25 last season to 19-9 entering the week. They're still trending toward missing the NCAA tournament, but they were picked last in the Big East and their NIL pales in comparison to that of the rest of the conference. Seton Hall hasn't been to the NCAA tournament under Holloway but did win the NIT in 2024.

For halloway, how many coach’s that are HC at their Alma matter in a power conference have ever voluntarily left for another power conference job? Dont see it happening

Article from ESPN. Butler, PC and Georgetown mentioned. Although they say Cooley is due so much money that Georgetown will probably give him another year to try to figure it out.
I think the unexpected loss of Thomas Sorber really set Georgetown back this year as I don't think Cooley expected him to be a one and done. Obviously, he would have been injured (ACL) and missed this season, but, if healthy, Georgetown would have been a much better team with him this year.

.-.
I didn't realize that Bobby Hurley has never even made it to the first weekend. He's 0-4 in tourney games across 13 seasons as a coach. Eww.

Don't know why I thought he'd won a couple of games.

He won a couple play-in games.

They pretty much had two players who played major minutes for them last year on this roster.

Cooley has had some bad luck, but it’s put up or shut up time next year.

Is "Phil T" a yarder? I chuckled when I read his, comment to the "Kim English Possible Replacements" article on The Athletic

Phil T. 20h 29m ago

"@Seth W. living in Connecticut, I'm close enough to know that Providence fans have the patience of an angry drunk looking to barge his way into the next bar to fire down a couple shots and pick a fight. They're a miserable fan base and I don't know why anybody would want to coach there.....The environment in Providence is so toxic, nobody can win there."

.-.
He's looked 65 since he was 35.

To be fair, he had some actual health issues along the way.
Thad at 38...

Thad Matta doesn't qualify but since he has been mentioned in this thread. Thad played at Butler 1987-1990. Head coach at Butler 2000-2001. Then head coach at Xavier, Ohio State, and Butler. Of course Butler was in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference in 2000 and moved to the Horizon Conference in 2001 while Xavier was in the A-10 so that was a step up.

Wait, what? No way he's only 8yrs older than me, he looks like he could be my grandfather.
He was 40 in 2008 at Ohio State? Wow.
