I've mentioned this before, but I've noticed that the camera angles for most Big East games are similar to what you see in the NBA, while at most ACC venues and at KU tonight I feel like I'm sitting somewhere in section 200 row double-Z.

I don't know if it's a matter of the position of the primary camera or the lack of zooming in on the action. I'm inclined to think the camera position for example here in the KU game is positioned much higher than the positions at Gampel and XL for instance. In Gampel's case, the arena is small and the camera is located very close to the action, but XL is a pro-style arena.

Anyone else notice this and find that game less interesting watching much of the action from the rafters? The worst has to be Cameron Indoor. It's bad enough watching Dook play, but to watch it from the ceiling is annoying.

I like when the camera is directly behind the shooter and you see it going in as it leaves the shooter's hand.

I don't mind most camera angles. My pet peeve is when they zoom in too much that they don't show everyone, like if a player is hanging around the half-court line.

I just hate it when they show random camera angles for entire plays. Like from the baseline or from the corner of the court. There's a reason everyone uses the same half court camera angle. It works.

Some venues just have limited options for camera placement - Assembly Hall, Cameron Indoor, etc.

Those two are the worst - I can't watch Indiana games most of the time.

I think the Carrier Dome has always had a very low angle, which I also don't like. I didn't notice it much tonight, but I only looked in a couple of times.

probably because most of the big east teams play their games in pro hockey/basketball style arenas, at least their bigger games anyway. the dome might be low because the cameras are on the bleacher side which would be essentially the 50-yard line.

Most of the Big East buildings were built or heavily renovated with TV in mind in the last 15 years. Places like Assembly Hall, Cameron Indoor, the Phog, are older buildings without major TV overhauls, largely because their history is so sacred they don't want to change anything.

Assembly Hall is just an altogether weird building. It's like going to watch a show on a stage...except you are staring across at a mirror image of a 10,000 seat amphitheater. There's maybe 600 end zone seats, at most, and that's just students/media.

Excellent reply Fishy, even though I have 2 kids who went to B10 schools. B10 hoops is uninteresting.

I always have been bothered by the low angle at the Carrier Dome. It provides very little in the way of depth perception and makes the goddam zone look that much more obtrusive.

I have season tickets to a B1G basketball school and it is awfully dull. Also the camers angles for the most part are fine unless they try doing a hero shot and miss half the damn play. Its usually during a really important time it seems too. Don't be a hero just capture the action please.
