Big East AD's vote to hold BE Tournament

The whole idea is to create a bubble. Teams will surely have to arrive early and have rigorous CV testing before being allowed to interact with others. And then they'll be restricted in terms of what they do in between games. Also strict rules for all hotel & arena staff.

The NBA, WNBA, NHL bubbles were exceptionally effective.

I have not yet heard that teams will be required to arrive early. Keep in mind that classes will be in session for all the participants, and for those teams that win and advance they could be looking at 2 weeks+ In TX, not including an early arrival.

The other thing to keep in mind is that this is not like the W or NBA bubbles that were both established on a single closed campus environment respectively. There will be multiple sites in TX and multiple hotels, with the potential for fans to attend games.

A bigger question in my mind is what happens during the Big Dance when you have 64 teams in TX. For example if a top seed plays Blowout U in the 1st round and beats them by 40 pts, and a day later someone on Blowout U tests positive, is the top seed then out of the tournament because they have to quarantine out of an “abundance of caution?”

UConn wont back out - thats not in their nature. They played at Tenn, at Ark, would have played at Baylor - in regions with high virus spread. Things will only get better going forward.

That said, if any team wanted to withdraw for health & safety reasons, I doubt the conference would do anything this year.
Other years would be a much different story.

If Uconn or any team for that matter dropped out of the conference tourney for health reasons, they would be crucified by the BE if they turned around and competed in the NCAA tourny.

Could UCONN just decide not to play in the Big East conference tournament? Clearly, they are headed for a #1 seed in the national tournament.

Agree. The team is short games. This would be another week's worth of games. The team can use those games. I was perusing the schedule for an empty date to play the second game with Villanova. I spotted 2/14, a Sunday.
Playing the tournament would give UConn a solid week of play. I do not believe in that concept, "nothing to gain, everything to lose". If they need to be afraid to lose in the BE tournament, well, what's gunna happen in the Big Dance. Let's get "battle ready, battle tough".

P.S. IMO Geno would never do anything contrary to the BE. UConn is back in the conference, Geno is overall happy about that, at least that's the impression we get in his pressers. He seems to have a boatload of old friends in the conference. To me, it would be hugely important for Geno and UConn to support wholeheartedly any decision made by the BE conference.

Question, if UCONN decided to drop out, would they run the risk of being tossed out of the BE? I would imagine such a moved would not endear UCONN with other BE members. Where would UCONN go? A10? Patriot league? A local HS conference?

That's why I stated earlier in another thread that Las Vegas would be better. They could house all of the teams in one of the closed casino's and have 4 to 8 different courts within a few minutes of the casino. All of the courts would have separate entrances that are isolated from the public and have a very low risk factor.
