What are some big early season games?
Tennessee vs NC State November 4th.
 
In addition here are some games based on BIG10 teams:

SC vs USC - Nov 15
Michigan vs UConn - Nov 20
UConn vs USC SC - Dec 13
Iowa vs UConn - Dec 20

Guessing Baylor will be ranked, but TBD. ESPN has Baylor at 16, and the early ballots (Mitchell Northam and Joe Vozzelli) I have seen for next week’s AP poll have Baylor at 17-18. Iowa-Baylor on Nov. 20 should be a good game, perhaps for a spot in the top 25.

Actually, this is one of the best barometers of teams hoping to make the jump into the Final Four conversation. Cori's teams are always good early and seem to never develop during the season and Jennie B likes to run, run and run some more. She has one of the "true bigs" that has already played against Betts and that Betts will have to defend. Can UCLA force OU into a half court offense and can UCLA get enough open looks for Kneepkens and Leger-Walker to score efficiently. How CLW fits into the Bruin scheme (if you want to call what Cori has as a "scheme") will be curious to me as she never had this much talent at WSU.

Yes, but it doesn’t count in the conference standings. Thus, One could lose both games and still end up as co-champ if they end up in a tie for best conference record.

I did have a quick rant/reminisce about this. I love opening week and moreover opening day. But I do wish they had a marquee matchup this year. Duke vs Baylor will be interesting but idk. Unless Duke is being slept on and comes out and looks like a final 4 team, I'm not that enthused. I remember about 4 years ago, 2021 nc state vs South Carolina. That game did something to my fandom. NC State crowd was rocking. Raina Perez who I barely knew about was the best guard on the court, and SC had Henny and Zia Cooke. AB vs Cunane. SC ends up winning a close game. It was just like this is what opening day should be. If duke v baylor was at duke id appreciate it more.

I realize it won't count in the conference standings, but why on earth would those two teams sign up to play in an in season tournament where there's a high probability that they could face each other? Was the deal signed before Texas joined the SEC?

I think I heard rumors of a team backing out because of a scheduling conflict and Texas replaced them. I agree that it is odd but it is what it is.

I am pretty sure each team gets 1 mil in NIL for participating. Maybe another 1 mil for the winner?
 
This is what I found interesting at a first glance - and I tend to enjoy more of the little kids on the block and leave the big dogs to others.

South Dakota State v. Creighton What does life after that graduating class look like for Creighton? SDSU will have some new guards to break in with Timmer and Paige Meyer graduating.

Fairfield v. Villanova Fairfield should be the favorite here - and a win here would go a long way towards starting to build an at large berth.

Wazzu v. UNLV Just a few years ago, this would've been Wazzu waltzing in as the overwhelming favorite - but here - I think it's UNLV's to lose on their home floor.

Mizzou v. Tulane After that Nebraska exhibition, is Missouri safe against the likes of a pesky mid like Tulane?

Q'pac v. Rutgers: A great chance for Q'pac to pick up on a win against a P-4 program, albeit, one that's fallen by the wayside.

Murray State v. Southern Indiana: Katelyn Young is gone, but will Murray State keep racing? Southern Indiana stole last season's matchup - and this could tell us about which direction each team is headed in. Will Halli Poock and Haven Ford take this team to new heights? Or will the screaming eagles rally around Ali Saunders and win once more?

Richmond v. Texas Maggie Doogan is fantastic - and while the Spiders probably won't have enough venom to take down the Longhorns - but it's worth seeing what this years best-in-mid-major-class has to offer.

Saint Joseph's vs. Maine: Saint Joe's kicks off a rebuild after the departures of Talya Brugler and Laura Ziegler - and Maine welcomes back ferocious force Adrianna Smith after a knee injury. Expect the Bears to catch those Hawks.

Montana State v. Portland Montana State is coming off one of the finest seasons in Big Sky history - but Esmerelda Morales and Marah Dystra have graduated. Portland edged Stanford in their penultimate game - but also lost stalwarts Emmie Shearer and Masie Burnham. This game will help us see who's bouncing back quicker.

Wisconsin v. Marquette Will Robin Pingeton win her first game in a crucial rivalry series? Pingeton starts off her Badger career by playing Milwaukee, Marquette, and Green Bay in three of her first five games - and we'll see if she can marshal her team to Wisconsin supremacy.

Both teams have gutted rosters compared to last year, only a few rotational players from last season return in both cases. The losses go deeper than the 2 stars for each. If I'm looking at last year's stats correctly, MSU lost 3 starters and UP lost ALL FIVE.

It's true - and sad to see that these teams have a much harder time reloading than the traditional powerhouses of the world. That said, the attrition and transfers at the mid-major level has been mind-boggling this year - I attempted to draft a team mostly of mids for a fantasy league and it's proven hard outside of a few teams that have been unscathed. The Maggie Doogans, Adrianna Smiths, and the Brooklyn Meyers of the world seem to be fewer and farther in between.

I've been halfway watching this game. Lots of turnovers for both teams, but especially for Portland. Montana St. looks like a team that still knows what their identity is, The Pilots look like a young team who have never played together. Rough outing. Chirrick is as much of a pest on defense as ever, seems like every time I look up she's deflecting a pass or getting a steal.

I am so glad this series is being continued. It's probably my favorite game of the season that doesn't involve NC State.
