What I find interesting is that the player is trying to renegotiate the terms of what is already in place. The comment from the person who is sponsoring (sorry, not sure of the right term) the NIL is staying firm on what's been offered. Feel bad for the coaches as they're caught in the middle and weren't notified in advance.
I still don't fully understand NIL. Since Canadian/International athletes can't benefit from it in the same manner as US athletes, I didn't see the point in trying. Unfortunately it's looking more and more like free agency which is very concerning.
There have been some examples where NIL seems like it's a good idea, like at BYU where the tuition of walk-on players will be covered. Has anyone heard of other examples like this?

BYU Football Strikes NIL Deal to Pay Tuition for Walk-Ons
The deal will include compensation to all 123 members on the football team as well as provide full tuition for walk-on players.
