Army, but not Temple who defeated Penn State... interesting. I know this is coming from B10 teams applying to the league to have this game or that one count towards the requirement. Wonder if this will impact scheduling going forward - like would an AAC team ask their B10 opponent to lobby the B10 to count them as P5?

Most likely because Army is an Independent and Navy is in a conference.

Army counts because they are the last remaining FBS Independent as well as who they are as an institution. Goes well beyond competitiveness or lack there of on the field

You get Penn State vs. Army in the Meadowlands=instant sellout & looking like a PSU home game
You get Navy vs. Maryland in Redskins stadium Not so sure about a sellout but the event will look like a Pentagon strategy session

That's not a small victory. That's a huge help in OCC scheduling and also helps validate our ultimate CR move to the B1G or Big 12, which will be coming. Reading...tea leafs... of course.

Most likely because Army is an Independent and Navy is in a conference.

I think its more that specific B1G teams requested the exemption because they are scheduled, and Navy just isnt scheduled by a B1G team

There are schools that have never even been to their conference's top tie in bowl game (ex. Rose, Orange, Citrus(now Cap One)...etc)
yet...lowly ol' UConn from Storrs, CT has been to both their top tie in game (Meineke Bowl in 07) and a BCS game. All within the first decade of their D-1 existence.
Go eat some from unda cheese Feldman.

Yup. We stick out like a sore thumb in the size of athletic budgets of those left behind and would indeed fit right in among P5 budgets.
