Time Warner Cable, Comcast, DirecTV and Dish Network. Time Warner Cable has declined to officially comment on the Longhorn Network, but sources familiar with the negotiations said the parties remain far apart.

When asked whether they'll carry the channel, DirecTV issued the following statement: "We've had discussions with ESPN about Longhorn Network, but we have no plans right now to carry it. We understand Longhorn has other programming that may be of value to a small segment of our customers, but two UT football games do not constitute a network. We're happy to carry those two games under the considerable fees we already pay ESPN for programming that includes the Big 12.

Disney, the company that owns ESPN, isn't in the business of floundering investments, and in the $300 million Texas-based sports network they have made a big one.

Since the joint partnership between ESPN and the University of Texas was announced, many have cried foul.

I think Oklahoma's announcement today is a line in the sand to Bevo to turn the LHN's lights out.

I love the scroll at the bottom of my screen when watching ESPN "please contact your local cable provider about adding the Longhorn Network". Ya, I'll get right on that.

Yeah, you'd be wrong. OU and Texas are joined at the hip and will almost certainly end up in the same conference together. It just won't be the Big XII.

URL]
This is all standard posturing. ESPN made a point to have the first Texas game of the season on the LHN to add some urgency to the negotiation processes. Whether people up in Connecticut care or not, the fact of the matter is that all of the providers who cover Texas are getting flooded with calls. DirecTV is giving away GamePlan and Sunday Ticket to Texas customer who call and make any hint of leaving. Literally. This was a 15-year commitment by ESPN to the University of Texas. People having any kind of opinion about the success of the project at this stage of the game are either incredibly myopic or incredibly dumb.

UT and OU spent more than seventy years (where each was a very prominant program) in different conferences. Returning to a situation similar to their old SWC/B-8 days wouldn't be a concern.

I believe that OU's preference would be to remain aligned (in a conference) with UT but one thing they do not want to do is help launch the LHN only to get kicked to the curb in a decade when UT is in a better position to go independent. If the two schools remain together there will be some LHN concession made by UT.
