------So, we bid farewell to WVU as a Bigeast member. I guess I'll miss them a little.

Interestingly, WVU was fairly awful in their first decade in the BET: from 1996-2004, they won just 1 BET game. They've been pretty respectable since, going 11-6 with the title in 2010.

------Maybe Boeheim is accurate when he says that the BET is not that important: Cuse won the BET 5 times prior and their NCAA results are as follows:

81- NIT
88- NCAA second round
92- NCAA second round
05- NCAA first round
06- NCAA first round

------Louisville joins some elite company with 7 other schools, who have won at least 2 BET titles. Pretty impressive considering they've been in the league just 7 years:

Uconn/Gtown- 7
Syracuse- 5
St. Johns- 3
BC, SHU, Pitt, UL- 2

It's amazing that Villanova only has 1 BET title . . . .

------ND has now been in the BET for 17 years and is yet to make the tournament final. Pretty bad, considering they've had some decent teams.

------Other schools yet to make the BET finals, with # of years they've been in the conference:
Rutgers (17), Miami (13), Depaul, Marq, USF (7), Va Tech (4)

thank you JC

we never even won 1 tournament game BjC

That doesn't really look like elite company to me (teams with 2 BE titles). The BET is seemingly not important as an indicator of NCAA success for Cuse because they gag in the big dance. I don't think there is a cause-and-effect relationship with the BE tourney.

Cuse is the exception. The BET usually propels teams to advance far. Here are the last 10 winners:

2002 Connecticut Elite Eight
2003 Pittsburgh Sweet Sixteen
2004 Connecticut CHAMPION
2005 Syracuse 1st round
2006 Syracuse 1st round
2007 Georgetown Final Four
2008 Pittsburgh 2nd round
2009 Louisville Elite Eight
2010 West Virginia Final Four
2011 Connecticut CHAMPION

when we win the BET

2011 - NC
2004- NC
2002 - E8
1999 - NC
1998 - E8
1996 - S16
1990 - E8

tells a much different story

interesting that Georgetown won 5 titles before JC and 6 in the league's 1st ten years

we are the flagship since JC arrived, there is no debate

We did win one, the first BET game Perno ever coached (the first BET ever in fact). We lost Perno's next seven (and JC's first three) but we did win that one.

OK, I stand corrected

I really don't remember it

:)

We beat BC in 1980. It was our only win in the BET in the entire decade.

I think it's impressive since they've just been in the league 7 years.

I mean SHU, BC and Pitt are not elite company. Historical afterthoughts in a decade from now.

It has been perhaps one of the most interesting years ever in the BE but mostly for bad news to programs:

Syracuse: Leaving conference, Bernie Fine, Fab Melo's issues with grades and the law, Drug accusations and coverups

West Virginia: Leaving conference including lawsuits against conference

Pittsburgh: Leaving conference, completely sucking, former coach having very trying time at UCLA, top recruit leaving after a few games

Providence: recent news about Chris Driscoll telling players to throw games in the past few years

Georgetown: international incident

Cincinatti: brawl with Xavier

UConn: Boatright issues, Calhoun health, Calhoun suspensions

St. John's: Lavins health, players leaving team mid-season
