Took that idea from UNC, and the new Old Dominion helmets/field. Love the idea that the logo is a part fo the state which UConn represents.
 
Anyone seen the new Kent State helmets... I think its a yellow alternate with the "Flashes" eyes in the front (a la our new helmets with the Husky eyes). My point is, I guess our helmets could be a lot worse.

Found it. They only did it for their bowl game. We had to endure our hideous helmets for an entire season. :(

@BugsyCT Can you email both of these tothe UConn Athletic Department? The ones with the side view are awesome.
 
I've gotta be honest, fellas; having the sides of a helmet left blank looks bad. Really bad. I know I've said that before, but I think it needs to be said again. Nothing made that more apparent then when I checked in on the Senior Bowl, and saw Stephen there next to the other helmets. Our helmet looked ridiculous, almost like it was a practice helmet.

There's gotta be something on the sides. I don't care if it's a letter, a word, the dog, or some other symbol, but there has to be something...

Keep the top half of the logo present stretching towards the top/rear of the helmet. Only the bottom half of the logo below the eyes and widest corners of the cheeks would be cut off into negative space. Forehead and ears stay like current helmet.

I tried it & get what you're saying - but to do it would mean stretching the logo so large that just even the top half would wrap around the entire front & front sides of the helmet, and would be large to the point where the eyes get lost and just look like part of a giant Rorschach inkblot.

Gotta agree with UConnDan here - the helmets need something on the side. Simple & conventional. The mockups I made are no works of art but I'd take any of them over what we have now.

I'll say it once and I will say it again. They look like practice helmets. Way too much white space.
 
@UConn Insider Any idea if there will be a helmet change at all?

I, like many others, thought it might be cool and gave it a chance, but man it really is just awful.

We all know that the block C isn't coming back ever, but any chance we get something respectable?
 
Alright, some thought.

I like the UCONN on the back. I've written this before. I like it because it's different, and I like the concept of defenders chasing down UCONN offensive players from behind, and seeing that UCONN in their field of vision, on our plays on the way to the endzone.

I like the tapered stripe down the middle of the helmet wide in front.

A blank side is ok with me, and if something has to be on the side, I would go with the PIttsburgh Steelers concept and put the husky dog logo, and just the dog logo on one side, and one side only, and not too big.

The husky eyes/face on front - not good.

Diaco will have the key input. If he tells WM we need a new helmet design to match the new era of UConn football, WM will ask Nike to design some alternatives. If Diaco likes what we have, they will stay.

This look is AWESOME! The logo blended ito the UCONN is well balanced. I think you hit a home run, rather scored a touchdown, with these helmets. I would be very happy if we went with these. Now what to put on the back? Do you have in mind the decal on one side or both? Perhaps both sides would be too busy. You really should share this with Diaco and Warde. I think we all should support you in this. Nice work!

Thanks for the props. If they were to go with something like this, they wouldn't need much on the back. The side decals would be busy enough, so no need to make it look like a stock car. ;) I would just have that decal on both sides, maybe a simple pointed stripe on the top, and call it a day.

None of these concepts have to be written in stone, just to give them food for thought that they could/should use something very close to these. Anything to ditch that abomination they have now.

Just FYI - I emailed all of them to a couple people in marketing, and their response was basically "thanks for your interest, but the team and Coach Diaco are happy with the (current) helmet."

Obviously wasn't expecting much else to come from that. :rolleyes:

Yeah, if some random person emailed me at work and told me what to do, I'd probably give them a polite "F off" as well.
