Best Player Ever From The State Of Connecticut

Someone stated in a thread, where the relative merits of Lively versus Clingan was being discussed that, "Yes, he’s (Clingan) the best player CT has ever seen."
Focusing on Connecticut natives, someone countered with Drummond and anotheesd r with Gminski, and you might add Camben yor Corny Thompson, but how about overall best player ever, regardless of position? Calvin Murphy?
Have not read the the thread but it is Calvin Murphy and it's not even close.

Gminski averaged 41ppg his Junior year and left early for Duke. He is up there with Murphy, Matthews, Bagley, Smith, Smith, Earl Kelley and I’m sure there are others I can’t think of.

he never beat Harding

Calvin Murphy

Anthony Harris is Top 10. Why did Calvin Murphy go to such a crappy school if he was such a stud?
So he could pour in 68 against cuse. Seriously, the smart money said he was too small.

Best boxer pound per pound ever some experts say. My father trained him while he was still an amateur
For sure and he had all his wits about him until the end because nobody could hit him...

Hometown bias here, but in terms of high school ball I don’t think there’s has been anyone in state that was more dominant and unstoppable as Gminski was. His numbers would have been staggering if he had played a full 4 quarters along with a senior year. He also had a stellar NBA career.

GMan also won the NFL punt, pass and kick competition back in the early 70’s.

But in terms of best player from CT. my vote would go to HOF’er Murphy.

All the coach’s in the 90’s in Babe Ruth told us you can be just like Bagwell. Now it’s my boy AJ Pollack!
How about spelling his name correctly. Pollock.

Anthony Harris was an insane high school player and my reference point between being very good and elite. On the court, he was just different than the other guys. It’s a shame things went so sour at Syracuse.

Didn't know Pep was from CT
Pep was hired as a bouncer for one year when I wax at UConn at the Rock Garden restaurant in Willimsntic The days when Mansfield was a dry town. Very good restaurant and bar.

There have been some really good players who weren’t the best, but were darn good and a few from the days when not every really good player went to a D1 school for various reasons. For D1, John Pinone, Lloyd Hinchey to name a few. Eddie Griffin from Hartford Public was a tremendous hs player who went to a historically black college. Hinchey, nice guy who I got to know in law school, was a great shooter at NFA went to Holy Cross when it was still a nationally known hoops power, was the leading scorer on his frosh team. Then he had some sort of leg injury, sidelined for a bit and was never quite the same. Definitely NBA talent. Needless to say, he ate up our law school league.

No one from CT dominated their sport better than Joan Joyce from Waterbury. She struck out Ted Williams and was the greatest softball player in history.

Roger Connor was the first CT player elected to the hall of fame from CT. Also from Waterbury.

Bobby Moore was the best baller I remember in high school

Roosevelt Lee was also ranked higher than LeBron James at one point

So I don't see New Britain on the list. Rod Foster? He was well on his way to a solid pro career when he had an accident in a jeep(I think Ed Pinkney was also in it). Played for UCLA. Also Phoenix Suns.

And Chris Paul.

Man, so much unfulfilled promise there. Always wondered what happened there.

Didn’t read the whole thread, but Ernie Cobb was an amazing high school player I saw in person at the JCC Classic in 75. Had incredible range.

Calvin was a world -class baton twirler. As part of his attending Niagara he was promised that he would perform at Bills home games. No other school could match that offer.
That's what I heard, too. Niagara was the only school that respected his baton twirling.
