Best CBB Finals Last 30 Years

You have to realize my friend, that in the history of CBB, no legitimate NC contender shoots 3-31 from two. No one. That's 9%. We did not have Hakeen Olajuwon on the roster, or Gary Payton. So you can credit the UConn D all you want, a lot of it was simply bad shooting/basketball.

And even if you want to credit the D, it still does not keep it from being awful basketball. No one wants to watch a 53-41 NC game where the losing team loses by 30% of their total points. We can peal it apart 100 ways, but it doesn't change the outcome and product of it being a really hard to watch basketball game. There was no thrilling ending, that halftime score was 22-19 BUTLER.

The 2011 and 2014 teams are widely considered the least impressive NC's of the last 30 years, and the data supports it. Great runs though. So tell me more why that was a great NC game. You can poll the other 350 fanbases and I'm pretty sure they'd all agree. You can probably poll hoop lovers non UConn, and they'd likely agree. I'm not taking away how great it was to UConn fans.

Not sure why keep on going back & forth & arguing silly topics- pretty obvious that the championship game verse Butler was not a great watch & pretty sure it had one of the lowest tv ratings of all time for Men’s College Basketball Championship games. With that said- probably not a topic or point you want to have these prolong conversations about with a bunch of UConn fans considering we won our third national championship & our great coach in Calhoun (the one who built this great program) won his third & last ring.

Let's not over annoint them, they played a slowed down deliberate half court. They also only scored 53, 55, 65, 67.

The whole point here is that it was the worst championship game in the last 30 years, which it was. No one wants to see a mid major go in and score 41 pts in a CG in a game where no one could shoot.

Nobody wants to watch a championship game that was officiated so badly that the press wont even talk about it openly because they are afraid of the possible NCAA pusshback. The 2026 game was the worst - hands down. It was a total clown show.
Maybe you were too young or maybe you didn't watch the Butler game but UConn put the clamps on them defensively that Brad Stevens admitted he had nearly zero ideas on how to approach the 2nd half of that game. If you don't like low scoring games - you don't like that contest.
Remember - 4/5 of UConn's starters were sitting a majority of the 1st half due to foul trouble and I don't think Breeding was even a college ref at that time! All the players were also complaining about the background issues and depth perception of shooting in that arena.

When one team shoots 19% from the field, it's not about defense alone. The best defenses of all time didn't keep opponents to that kind of %.
Maybe the UConn D was the best of all time in that game? I can't reply to that statement - it makes zero sense to me - sorry

I very much enjoyed watching a suffocating D that clampdown on Kentucky and gave up 50 points to them too (despite them having multiple 1st round NBA guys).

And as I said about UConn, when everyone was on the bench for a long stretch, they didn't make one shot. Otherwise they shot well.

My least favorite thing is to watch soft teams letting each other score. I feel the same way in football. The most beautiful thing is lockdown defense that throttles juggernauts like Manning's Colts. The SEC is the greatest league BECAUSE they draw the best defenders. The B12 is beyond boring with WRs running free in the open field play after play after play. Fans are thrilled when a defense can't stop an offense. I'm the other way. I've seen the highest scoring offenses in NFL history dismantled multiple times. I'd take SEC defense over B12 offense any day of the week, and I also notice that the ratio of bigtime busts at the WR position coming out of the B12 is sky high. There's a reason for that.

If you love 10-7 football games, you'd be in the low minority. There is a reason the NFL loosened rules to favor offenses, because fans prefer it. No one is saying the Pats 13-3 win over the Rams is an all timer. It's forgettable. As this Uconn game was to all non UConn fans.

It's sports it's not a fashion show. No one is taking away from the 2011 team but the game was objectively ugly and that's ok. Every team that has won a championship especially multiple championships had to win ugly games along the way.

-72 Dolphins won an ugly Super Bowl 14-7 known as the Yaro Yepprenian fumble.

-2010 UConn women who had Maya Moore and Tina Charles had 12 pts at halftime of the national championship

- The dynasty Yankees in the 50s not sure which year exactly as a team I believe batted around .200 in the WS and won the World Series on a wild pitch against the Brooklyn Dodgers

- 2010 Lakers had an ugly game 7 in a game where Kobe shot 6-24

A lot of fans are simpletons, especially in the age of social media. They also think Caitlyn Clark is the GOAT saying it doesn't matter that she didn't win a national championship, umm yes it does matter, also saying she won with nothing also not true. I agree B12 football is the worst. There is a happy medium though - no one wants to see two teams clank shots for 40 minutes either. Even the best defense rarely keeps an opponent to less than 30-35% shooting from 2, not 9%.
