Guys that are money from 3:

Napier
Lamb
Boatright

Guys that are solid from 3:

Roscoe
Daniels
Giffey

And now Olander ?

Last team I recall that could really shoot it that well was the 2004 team with Gordon, Rashad, Denham, and Villanueva. Another one in contention would be El-Amin, Hamilton, and Mouring, or Chris Smith, Dove, Tate, Gwynn, and Burrell. Maybe Ray and Donyell in '94. 2006 team was pretty good too, with Rashad, Denham, Rudy, and Marcus. Did any other UConn team really go 7 deep from three, though ?!

It certainly is refreshing to have this kind of depth from the outside. 5 players hit from deep last night - when is the last time that happened?!

Daniels is solid from 3, he makes most of his shots granted he doesnt have many attempts

Speaking of Daniels, what is going on with him? Is he hurt or is he in the doghouse? He was starting and playing 30+ minutes and now he is down to 5 or 6. He seems to be a very gifted player but we are not seeing much of him lately.

2003-2004
Ben Gordon 104 out of 240 (.433%)
Rashad Anderson 87out of 212 (.410%)
Denham Brown 36 out of 92 (.391%)
Charlie Villanueva 18 out of:49 (.367%)

2011-2012
Shabazz Napier 22 out of 53 (.415%)
Jeremy Lamb 22 out of 58 (.379%)
DeAndre Daniels 8 out of 24 (.333%)
Ryan Boatright 4 out of 7 (.571%)

TO, RS, and NG (all three have made just 1 three-pointer this year) will either not get enough playing time to make 3s (NG and RS), or they just won’t take them (TO).

At this rate, JL and SN will probably take just under 200, while DD, contingent on how many minutes he gets, is on track to take close to 80. That leaves RB. I think he’ll take more than Charlie did, but not many more.

So, as it stands, I think RBs numbers will go down, while SN’s will as well.

The thing is, I think NG and RS are good 3 pt shooters, but probably won’t get enough minutes to make it matter.

Therefore, I think 2003-2004 wins, but just barely.

Remember Brian Fair?

Brian Fair had the sweetest stroke of any player ever to play for UConn, including Ray Allen. He should have been so much better.

TO solid from 3? After making ONE 3? Are you SERIOUS?
RS solid from three? While shooting 11% so far? Really?

Rashad Anderson was scorching hot from outside in the BET and NCAA in 2004.

Let's not kill Roscoe yet. He was 25-83 last year, just over 30%. His numbers will rise.

First of all, I did not include Olander in the "solid" category. He is in his own category of "and now... ?". I base Roscoe Smith's ability to hit threes on the entirety of his freshman season when he shot 30% rather than a handful of games this year.

Did you watch last night's game ? The answer is yes, nothing but net. And since he has been hitting the 17 footer with regularity, there really is no reason to think he CAN'T step out another couple feet. And Calhoun specifically mentioned Olander's "great shooting" in the post-game inteview with Katz.

To answer the original question, IMO the 2004 team was the best from beyond the arc. You can't get any better than Ben and Rashard, just ask Alabama.

Vern Giscombe, Mike McKay, Earl Kelley were all sharpshooters from outside, probably could give the current team a go at it.

I saw Olander hit 8 straight deep 3's in warmups a couple games ago. That's not to say he should be setting up at the 3 point line and calling for the ball but if they're swinging it around and his man doesn't step out on him at all then I am fine with him shooting it. He definitely falls into the open 3 category.

Olander's ability to shoot from outside could be a big thing.

Lamb - Bazz - Boat - and Tyler spread out by the arc, let AD DOOM get single one on one matchups in the paint. You want to help down, bang, we can light it up from outside

This team is one of the deepest most versatile teams Calhoun has ever had, soooo many options, that's why December up until the G'town game will be tinker here and there.

UConn in 03-04 was 7th in the nation in 3pt% at 40.2%. Let's not count our chickens yet (at 37.6%) this year.
