How is it costing $100 million to upgrade Gampel? I don't care what state you are in, that is obscene, profane and really offensive

I've lost track of what things cost. A bag of normal Starbucks coffee cost me $20 yesterday.

I am reading a CSNY book and people were calling Steven Stills out for being wasteful because he bought Ringo's Surrey mansion in 1971 for an egregious....250,000 dollars.

From the article:

"The renovation vision includes:
- State-of-the-art locker rooms and recovery spaces, built around modern sports science

- Expanded player development areas, including film, leadership, and mental-performance facilities

- Improved concourse flow and fan amenities, prioritizing comfort and accessibility

- Upgraded broadcast and technology infrastructure, aligning with national and global exposure standards

So the issue is that it should really only be $50mm, but Dave messed up and put everything in the cart twice and didn't notice before ordering.

What a terrible article. AI should do MUCH better than that.

Unfortunately this is what things like this cost these days because construction costs have gone through the roof in the last few years. I'm in the real estate development business so I know first hand.

"Renovations so nice, they'll do them twice!"

Yup, inconveniently just walking around a Home Depot, Lowes or Sherwin Williams, obtaining quotes from quality tradesmen, or reviewing property insurance premiums is more than sufficient for most to know recent cost increases first hand.

It kinda looks like he's just eating a plate of food
He was serving the dude in the UConn hockey shirt. Met him and a bud at pregame in Austin and we all dared each other to bother DB in different ways.

Can't be any worse than the $150 million spent to put lipstick on that pig in downtown Hartford.

That was an extremely well spent $150 million. One of the best state funded projects in CT history (which isn’t saying much, but still)

Have you seen it? I was really impressed and feel they really got something right on this one.

So where are the additional seats?? Oh, there aren’t any. Very visionary. And don’t get me going on the football stadium dump. Where is that upgrade plan?

To approve $100 mill I would think they'd be adding additional buildings including a big concourse but I haven't seen any renderings. They should add a large area for fans to congregate in before the games and people would be inclined to get there earlier. syracuse added the miron victory court, a concourse/events space which connects the dome to another building

You can say that again!

How will anybody in their teens and twenties ever afford to buy a home in 10-15 years?
Thats a question I've been hearing a lot lately and I can see it play out among some of my 30-40 year old friends even now.

Don’t infer I’m against an upgraded arena, but it strikes me that $100 Million here, $60 million for softball and baseball, $60 million for head coaches, 100 mill here and there for new rec centers, guest lodging, and so on adds up pretty quickly. UConn has become a glorified country club keeping up with the Jone’s while tuition room and board is skyrocketing strapping kids with lifelong debt. Not sure our priorities are correct all the time. But I do love my bread and circuses, so I look forward to an enhanced fan experience.
