Benedict Named Athletic Director of the Year by NACDA

We have had other ADs leave, Lou Perkins is an example, there are better AD jobs. My point is that the AD award doesn't help UConn a bit. There is only a downside. It's a lose/lose. The Kobayashi Maru for the good guys.

The same could NOT be said for our basketball coaches. There is NOT a better basketball gig for Hurley or Geno to pursue. Hell, Hurley already turned down the Lakers. And Calhoun flirted with South Carolina (we'll never know how much) before turning his back.

In this case with Dave, the glass is completely empty.
So basically you will use any excuse to insert a Star Trek reference.

There are dozens of schools that have deeper athletic pockets than UConn with worse ADs. Recognition doesn't help us because it either makes make him more attractive to those schools or it costs UConn more money just to keep him.
You think other athletic departments didn't already know how great of a job he was doing? You think this award made him visible from under the rock we were hiding him?? Lol! Good for Dave. He has earned this award and then some. Any big time program that was or is looking for a new AD would already be seeing his success. An award doesn't change their ability to find him.

Hey, I'm in complete agreement with you. Excellence is a reason to complain and mediocrity is a blessing. "Ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise"

Having an AD that is worthy of an award helps.

I agree the act of him getting the award hurts.

So it goes. I'll take the risk

.-.

What I said is "nothing but trouble" will come from it. But that was an interesting interpretation.

Well, I'm inclined to believe that competence, and particularly extraordinary competence is a good thing and brings more rewards than troubles. Your view, as noted above, is that it brings "nothing but trouble."

That's an interesting world view. It's not so much that the glass is half empty, it's more like the glass is broken, and you just stepped on it and are bleeding out.

Costello: "It's better to marry an ugly girl than a pretty girl"

Abbott: "Why is that Lou?"

Costello: "A pretty girl could leave you."

Abbott: "An ugly girl could leave you too."

Costello: "Yeah, but you wouldn't care."

That's pretty much the mentality of thinking this is a bad thing.

I don't understand how winning this award hurts. Do we really think this puts AD Dave on the radar screen? Anyone in the business has to already be aware of the unprecedented job he's been doing.
Yes, don't assume smart people are in charge.
