Bench Secret - Less is More?

I'm not seeing it from a pure skill/fit perspective. We would have seen more in some capacity. He's gotten plenty of minutes.
I think it’s similar to not seeing much from Hawkins and Andre until Cole and Martin moved on.

Once the offense was built for Hawkins and Andre their talent was able to be shown fully. Thats the situation with Stew right now imo.

how many minutes has he gotten at the 4? AK plays 35 a game. How successful would AK have been if we trying playing him at the 3???

I guess - all I'm saying is we've had a lot of run with him through the years. AK is playing the position offensively unlike a classic 4.

What was he Pierce play?

Yes, we've had run, but out of position... Pierce my guess was a 3/4 hybrid...so they could play Ross, Stew and Pierce on the wings

Don't y think a 4th year player in this system would have a big advantage over anyone they brought in via portal? Lots of folks see his limitations, I see a guy that really hasn't had much run at his natural position. He's shown he can hit shots, he's a good passer and selfless player...he just needs a legit chance to play. Him and AK playing together is not a legit chance imo, nor is it playing with all bench guys

I'm glad he's here, but if he knew AK was coming back I wonder if he would have portaled
Honestly, no. I think whoever we brought in from the portal would be a significantly better player and would start. And I don't say that as a knock on Jaylin who I love and thought he'd be in the NBA by now. But you cannot go into year 4 continuing to wait on development as a national championship contender

Having more than 2 of reibe/stewart/ross/smith in the lineup severely limits our offense. This is usually when the opposing team goes on a run. I hope Hurley stops over-subbing going forward.

.-.
Hard to make a determination after one game, no matter what the outcome. He would seem to be a "spare" part, as we don't really need 2 backup threes and I highly prefer Ross.
Stewart also plays the backup 4 giving Karaban some minutes. I prefer to have Stew's strength than Ross backing up there. The St. John's game everyone played well except Reibe and I think Stew wouldn't have impacted that final result if he did play.

I think he relaizes he needs to have Mullins or Ball in a lineup like that and not for an extended time.

Stew's issue is he's playing behind someone that is Hurley's security blanket and gets 35 min a game....he's never had PT to develop his game properly and most of his time is at the 3, where he's not really built for
Stewart hasn’t progressed at all since stepping on campus. He’s the same exact guy he was as a freshman. Could argue he’s actually worse. I don’t think that just has to do with game reps. He’s just not this caliber of player.

what do you expect to see from him?

what do you expect to see from him?
Better defense, some aggression around the rim, playmaking in the paint, put backs, some reasonable offense within 10-12 ft.

What would you say he does well? Stew's brand to me is a kid that shows some intermittent offense coupled with lot's of defensive lapses. He doesn't rebound all that well for this size, can be aloof.

.-.
Stewart has potential and makes some great plays on occasion. The trouble is that as soon as he makes a mistake, he loses all confidence and disappears.
