Have you guys seen this kid? A 6'9 point forward with elite passing skills, shooting ability, and athleticism. How is he not consensus #1? Whats up with the LSU commitment?

He played against Prince on ESPN. He was incredibly impressive. He is Australian and his godfather is an LSU assistant.

His godfather - his father's best friend - is an assistant there.
Oh great... recent hire??

Love his game and agree that he should be the #1 recruit in his class.

Very similar type of game and size to lebron coming out of hs.

David Patrick. They hired him last summer. Probably alot to do with Simmons but also because it was just a good hire. Before LSU Patrick was an assistant St. Mary's and a part of the Rockets staff. He has had alot to do with many Australian players to US colleges. He played for the Australian National Team as well as playing professionally there. And went to Louisiana-Lafayette so the ties to the area are there too. Maybe it was all about one player but I think it was more than that.

I'm happy to see players like him and Mudiay going on their own and instead of a traditional powerhouse. It's good for the game.

LSU fans are really really stoked on this kid. Simmons, Martin, and Mickey make an incredible front line for the Tigers. JJones just let the 3 year starting PG go elsewhere, so he obviously has a vision. He has shown to be an amazing recruiter, but his in-game coaching leaves something to be desired. Either way, Simmons is the real deal.

Sounds like a good hire. Would be great for LSU if they become the Australian pipe line. More and more guys are coming out of Australia.

OT but are we involved with corey Sanders? seems like your prototypical uconn pg.

I haven't heard anything linking Corey Sanders to UCONN or vice versa. Although I wouldn't mind hearing it.

I figured that when he decommitted from UCF it was because Sanders thought could pick up an offer from a bigger school. It has always seemed like he has been holding out for Michigan buy I've heard Florida as well. To my knowledge at this point he holds offers from neither.

I know UCF expressed a desire to continue recruiting him alot like we have done with Prince. 24/7 has USC and UCF vying for him right now. But who knows? Unless he gets that major offer he wants I think anything can happen. He holds a handful of offers from some mid majors as well as schools like Memphis, Cincinnati, LSU, UNLV, Marquette, Texas A&M, etc.

Fun fact; same hometown (Lakeland, FL) and high school (Kathleen) as Rashad Anderson.

Simmons is an impressive player, all around, at least from what I saw vs Prince……….

Quality big men is nothing new for LSU really. Stromile Swift and Jabari Smith. Brandon Bass. Glen Davis and Tyrus Thomas. The big question is can they do anything with it this time?

There wasn't a player on Sagemont that could match up with him and he took advantage of it and dominated that game. It does help that Montverde is basically a collegiate program.

What makes Corey Sanders your prototypical UConn point guard? I've never seen him play but from his youtube clips he seems nothing like a UConn pg. He is really athletic but the kid is doing cartwheels and backflips during his AAU games, Ollie would smack the out of him if he pulled half the stuff he does in his videos.

Looks like Royce White with a jumpshot and a little more athleticism? but no explosion.

What is a prototypical UConn PG? Bazz, Kemba, Smith, Ollie, Sheffer; seems like we have had a lot of very different PGs.

Throw KEA, Taliek, Williams, and AJP in there and the group becomes even more diverse.

The prototypical UCONN PG to me is simply a good one; Sanders is definitely talented which why I didn't argue him being called one.

That said I can't really compare him to anyone we have had. From the limited tape I've seen I can confidently say that he is a superb athlete. Much of his game raw but the potential certainly looks like it's there. Reminds me of Elfrid Payton.

What exactly is your question? He's top 5 by everyone. He's committed to LSU. This is the dumbest thread ever.

I don't think it was a question as much as it was his way of starting a conversation about a great young player he wanted to talk about with people that care to talk about it. Not to mention he wanted to know why a kid with so much talent would go to LSU and how they recruited him. He got that answer too so what's your problem again?

I'm happy he posted this and happy to talk about it; so was everyone before you. Can I ask what the point of your post was?

To be a d*ck, I think.

Right, I mean the kid is a 6'9 5 tool high school junior dominating the best competition hs has to offer. The lsu commitment in itself is slightly suspect as hes not from the area... I dont get why anyone wouldn't create the thread.
