His entire time in Detroit, Stuckey has been the pg, and now you have Knight who is also a big PG. He just hasn't produced.
Detroit's guards consist of Ben Gordon, Brandon Knight, Rodney Stuckey and Will Bynum.
Not a single one of them is a PG. Stuckey or Knight may bring the ball up the court and start the offense but at best they are tweeners.
Stuckey averages 4.2 APG and 2.1 TOPG in 31.8 MPG or 5.3, and 2.6 per/40
Knight averages 3.7 APG and 2.5 TOPG in 32.4 MPG or 4.6 and 3.1 per/40
Gordon averages 2.6 APG and 2.3 TOPG in 28.1 MPG or 3.7 and 3.3 per/40
Bynum averages 1.4 APG and 1.3 TOPG in 12.3 MPG or 4.6 and 4.2 per/40
In total that is 11.9 APG, 8.2 TOPG in 104.6 MPG. Let's contrast with some other players and per minute stats:
Player A: 4.0 APG and 1.8 TOPG in 27.2 MPG or 5.9 and 2.6 per/40
Player B: 7.9 APG and 4 TOPG in 37 MPG or 8.5 and 4.3 per/40
Player C: 11.0 APG and 3.7 TOPG in 32.5 MPG or 13.5 and 4.6 per/40
All three of those players have better assist numbers than anyone on the Pistons per 40 and Player A and C have much better A/To numbers. Player B has about the same as Stuckey.
That's Kemba Walker (back up PG on the worst team in the NBA), John Wall (starting PG for 3rd worst team in the NBA) and Steve Nash (the best passing PG in the NBA). Fun thing is that Nash averages almost as many APG in 32.5 MPG as those four Piston guards do combined in 104.6 MPG, while averaging less than 50% of the TO's.
Heck just looking at Stuckey and Knight's numbers they combine for 7.9 assists and 4.6 TO's in 64.2 minutes. It takes them an additional 27.2 minutes to reach the John Wall numbers (slightly worse with TO's). I'm not saying John Wall is a bad PG, but he isn't an all-star, nor an all NBA player.
End of story, Knight and Stuckey are horrid PG's and Ben is worse. The ideal player to put next to Ben would be Jason Kidd who is tall and actually a PG.
