I especially appreciate the thread title.
I remember that in Crystal Dangerfield's freshman year (that would be Crystal Dangerfield), Baylor played UConn in Connecticut. Crystal did not start, but she scored a number of points (I think about 18) and basically was the difference in the game. Mulkey was quoted after the game as saying that she thought Crystal was the best player on the floor that night.
Having seen the film clip above, I now think that Mulkey was perhaps seeing a young version of herself on the floor that night. She might think the same thing now if she saw Lauren Park-Lane play.
Having said that, I don't recall that Baylor ever had a guard in the Mulkey / Crystal Dangerfield / Park-Lane mold. That is rather surprising -- I'm sure that there must have been a number of such guards that she might have recruited. Baylor under Mulkey is more known (at least in my mind) for towering big players like Brittney Griner and the 6-7 player that they had a few years ago. I wonder why she never tried to build a team around players who played like her.
