Haven't seen one yet. Plenty of traditional food although I've only found one pub who cooked their chips (steak fries for the Yankees) decent. They tend to serve them mushy right out of the fryer. I like 'em crunchy on the outside.

OTOH, Americans are so missing out on minty mushy peas as a side. When seasoned correctly (read: less mint, more salt) at the consistency of refried beans they are phenomenal.

Sounds good, I only rant on here though. Pretty mellow in the real world, although some bonehead plays by my Friars are known to get me going.

I have a Gordon Ramsey cookbook with a Minted Pea Mash recipe. Easy, and pretty good.


Back to beer...if you see Hop Bullet IIPA from Sierra Nevada try it.

Treehouse is solid, but I was getting a little worn out with 57 varieties of DIPA. A friend gave me a can of "Old Man" which is an ESB (Extra Special Bitter) and I was blown away! So refreshing to see them make a great beer in a style that is falling between the cracks as every brewery is cranking out this week's rendition of last week's DIPA.

I love Old Man. That is a great beer. Great example of the style, with a little more than most of the English versions. Their Brown Ale is called Bear and it is also excellent. IPAs and DIPAs pay the bills, but those guys are great brewers of all sorts of stuff. Their Good Morning coffee stout is amazing.

I'm a big fan of Brown Ales, I'll have to jump on that one. Stouts and Scotch Ales too. Love that malt. One of my beefs with the DIPA craze is that some breweries just concentrate on the amount of hops they put in and don't give it a malt backbone. With no balance, it's all Hop Stoopid.

Maybe try Bubble Farm IPA by Clown Shoes. I like IPA's, but not the over the top bitter ones or doubles. The Bubble Farm has a pretty noticeable malt aspect to it... just one guy's opinion...
 
I have to give credit where it's due. I have yet to meet a Cranky that I liked. But Stony Creek had a Mexican lager on tap at Agave that was very good and definitely had that mexican je ne sais que to it. I don't find many lagers from the crafts that I like.

Haven't had that. I find Sip of Sunshine rather malty, and honestly, the good ole Dogfish Head IPAs, 60 or 90 minute, are both very malty.

That is La Garza! Many posts ago I pimped it as one of Stony's best. I may just say it is their best beer.

Thoughts on Kent Falls? Probably my favorite overall CT brewery. Shruggie and Doubly Awkward Hugs are probaby both in my top 10 ipas. Candy Cap is a great maple stout. Picked up Buddy Sprinkles Saves the Day this afternoon. Will try it tomorrow.
 
Hit Citi Field today and checked out the new Mikkeller brewery there. Very impressive. 60 taps, over half of which are their own beers; every one of which I’ve ever tried has been excellent. Today I had the Oceans of Patience Kolsch and Passion Pool (passion fruit gose) and both were great. Perhaps even more impressive however is that the other half are equally great guest beers, including several Hill Farmstead, Nightshift, Maine Beer and several others. Despite the fact that IPAs don’t agree with my GI system anymore, I broke down for the Susan IPA on tap and it was worth whatever discomfort may follow.

They also sell beers to go so I picked up two four packs and am enjoying on the train home as I type. Highly recommend the place. Only bummer is you can’t access from the ballpark. We left at bottom of eighth and watched the rest of the game on TV from there with no regrets.

ETA: Forgot to mention that the brewer at Mikkeller NYC was at Hill Farmstead previously, thus the HF connection.

Good to know. If I go back there this year I'll definitely have to have a meal there (or at least a few drinks).

We didn't eat there, but it looked like they had a couple apps and a couple sandwiches. I would expect the food options to be very limited but good--the focus is on the beer.

Apparently on game days it opens an hour before game time and stays open for two hours after the game, and it is also open on non-game days. When we arrived at the top of the 9th there were maybe ten people in the place, but as soon as the game ended a steady stream of people flowed in and the place got jammed immediately, so I'd plan to get there before then if you go.

Thanks for the tip. It's not like the baseball game I'm watching beforehand is going to be very exciting anyway.

I think it was Watertown but i do remember drinking the last 8 cans of their dark beer, i cant remember the name, at McFairlawns in Waterbury when they announced going out of business.

Seven weeks in England and this will be my lasting taste of English Ales. Damn good beer.

I shop at Aldi and finally tried their beer. I have to admit the Kinroo Blue is pretty good at $6.49 a six. It’s a Blue Moon copy but better.
