SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Becky Hammon became the first woman to direct a team in NBA history, taking over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Lakers following Gregg Popovich's ejection in the first half. Popovich was ejected by official Tony Brown with 3:56 remaining in the second quarter.

Former Colorado State player and 6 time WNBA all star.

Anyone familiar with Hammon is not surprised. She could be an NBA head coach right now if given the opportunity. All things in time. Her day will come.

Pop may have gotten ejected on purpose to let Hammon get her feet wet, and put her name in the record books. There will be others, but she was the first.

As info, Pop has been ejected over 20 times in his HC career. He also holds the record for the quickest ejection in the history of the NBA (63 seconds).

It’s worth noting that approximately 1/3 of all Pop’s ejections, including last night’s, occurred between Christmas & New Years.

Bah Humbug........

Forever in the record book as the first woman to coach a regular season NBA game. MLB will follow in the 2070s and and the NFL in the 2150s.

Congrats to Becky. She’s right there with Penny Taylor for one of my all time favorite non-UConn basketball players (and I feel like Penny is an honorary husky anyway...)
