Too bad Marinatto isn't still commish of the BE. During his 2012 Food Tour Across America, he tasted Memphis BBQ, fish tacos in San Diego, Maryland crab cakes in Annapolis and baked potatoes in Boise.

Now with BC perhaps needing a lifeline, he could have continued his food tour in Boston and checked in with BC; everyone knows, BC brings the Boston market.

BTW, where is UCONN ranked among research universities?

Seems like UCONN is much more focused on research than ever before as evidenced by the Jackson Labs project and the upcoming Storrs Research Park. Improved relations / partnerships with business seems to be a focus and I am very glad to see this. Reminds me of the fiasco / lost opportunity with Pfizer years ago.

In 2010 UConn was #129 in funded research while the Health Center was listed separately at #123. If they were combined they would rank about 80th. FYI, ND was 138th and BC was 195th.

Not sure if you are kidding around. But, BC has a better chance of ending up in the B1G than being Ivy, and they have no chance of ending up in the B1G.

BC to the B1G happens only if ND insists they come along. Otherwise if the B1G wants to expand in the NE they have other states that they can add for TV eyeballs and cable fees for the B1G network like New York 19.5 mil population, Syracuse or NJ, 8.7 mil; Rutgers. The B1G also has a contiguous state by law which would have to be waived for BC to be admitted.

MA as a state does not care about BC sports that much so the idea that BC would bring great new markets to the B1G is silly.

Doesn't the BTN have a pricing policy that says cable systems in states where teams are situated pay a lot more than those that don't? That policy is effectively predicated on the schools being "State U" and thus being able to attract viewers far beyond the alumni base. BC, like most private schools*, can't bring the type of viewer interest to justify the high rate. 90% of sports fans in Massachusetts couldn't care less about BC. In fact, I'll bet that if the B1G took UConn, they'd have far more MA cable systems sign up to pay 10 cents per month (or whatever the actual figure is for non-represented states) than would sign up if they took BC and wanted $1 per month. Add in the fact that far more in CT would be willing to pay the higher rate (even though it is a smaller state) because UConn is "State U" and they would probably make more on subscriber fees while also having a much broader advertiser base and more exposure for the schools.

* Northwestern is a fantastic private school, but if they are getting higher rates in Illinois it's because of the Illini, not the Wildcats.
