BOX SCORE

This one's got a pretty clean scorecard for both teams - low turnovers, good number of assists per bucket, only 7 total fouls called. ISU has to be happy with the very low foul total. Two starters with 1 foul ea. & three starters with 0.

ISU making some 3's, Griner scoring very well but not a lot of rebounds.

Baylor keeps rolling along, but it's exhausting having a bulls eye on your back all season long. They're learning that now. A loss wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for them, honestly. I expect them to win the second half though.

The Baylor guards are not doing a good job of getting Griner the ball. She is establishing position and they are completely looking her off and taking wild shots instead of just feeding her the ball. Griner could have 25 points already if the guards were getting her the ball.

I guarantee you that if Geno were coaching this game he would put some butts on the bench for passing up multiple opportunities to get the ball inside. Baylor will not win a NC if they continue to pass up opportunities to get BG the ball.

I think that a loss at TAMU would not have been a bad thing. It would have refocused them. I don't think a loss at any point going forward would be a good one. This is the time to peak.

Another weak half for Sims.

I don't see how she can keep playing like a mediocre player, sitting back and making Griner carry the team.

Evidently Mulkey has no problem with it.

ETT, that's kind of why I think a loss could be a boon for them in the long run. They remind me a little bit of the 2003 UConn team, not in terms of how they play, but just that they don't quite have the feel of an undefeated NC kind of a team. UConn lost to Villanova in the Bg East Tourney, and Geno has credited that loss with putting them in the right frame of mind to win the NCAAs

my thoughts exactly. I feel like a loss would definitely refocus them. Going undefeated and winning a NC can be done but with the increasing parity this season, i think a loss would be good.

Baylor's press completely took ISU out of the game. Griner has been unstoppable: 37 pts (14/17 and 9/11), 8 rebs, 2 steals, 2 assists, 2 blocks.

Career scoring day for Griner: 41 points on 15 of 18 shooting from the floor and 11 of 13 from the FT line. A spectacular performance.

That second half was refocus enough. WOW! This team doesn't need a loss to get them focused. Could be the first team in history of the NCAA to go 40-0.

For anyone who wants to see the POY, find a replay of that game. Griner put on a performance that locked her in as POY. That was simply spectacular.

Sims' offense was not good but to imply that she is sitting back is inaccurate. Her defense is just incredible. She may be the best on-ball defender I have ever seen and she prevented the ISU PG from doing anything other than trying not to get the ball stolen.

I do think that Sims needs to make better decisions on offense. She was not having a good day and forced too many shots. But she had some hard drives to the basket that drew a number of ISU fouls.

Sims may have some bad offensive games but it is NEVER due to lack of effort, which is sort of what is implied in your post. Hope you watched the game if you are making a statement like that. Her effort was unwavering and her defense was some of the best I've seen her play.

I was not able to see anything of this game except for some highlights. My comments were based on looking at the box score at the half, and Sims had been very unproductive.

She is a great defensive player when she decides she needs to be. Probably the best on ball defender in the country when she turns it on. But I have seen her in too many games where she is just going through the motions, for at least a significant part of the game, and that's what I saw in this halftime box score.

This game was not one Baylor was really at risk to lose, but there could be a game down the road that will play out differently if Sims does not play a full game.

The box score told very little about her performance. It had to be seen to appreciated. And Sims always comes up big in the big games...it's what she does. Some players play better against weaker opponents but Sims plays better against better opponents. She has yet to have bad numbers against a top team.

Just curious in which games you've actually "seen" her as opposed to looking at the box score.

I don't recall. Probably all the games that ESPN has done, or most of them anyway.

Here is what she has done against top 20 teams; an average of 20.2 points per game.
Notre Dame: 25
UCONN: 23
Tennessee: 23
St Johns: 8 (not a good offensive game)
TAMU: 17

Not sure what your point is. Those numbers don't disprove anything I've said.

Yes, if any top player has a bad game it could put their team at risk of losing a game. That is hardly a startling statement. The point is, she plays well against the top teams when the game is on the line. Performances against top teams are a lot more telling than games against lesser opponents when the outcome is not in question.

I remember Maya Moore having a bad game or two. I do recall that she had a game under double digits last year if my memory serves me correctly. It happens...but usually not when the game is on the line.
